I do think if he hadn’t had that red card a few matches in then he’d probably be getting a lot more leeway from people, even with the missed sitters. But as it’s turned out, that incident has probably both knocked his confidence and created a marked card from a lot of fans for being a bit of a dip****. So by extension, rightly or wrongly, you can see why people might suspect he’ll never make it here.

Fine margins with a striker though, and with the amount of chances he makes for himself, it won’t take much of a spark for his fortunes to come good. More than happy giving him another season but we can’t allow him to fade into the background & leave on a free at the end of his contract, so all things considered if an offer comes in & a serious talent is available for a similar price, then we need to do what’s best for the team.
    Hello mert.

Good point on German though with Klopp.
Speak a bit or Spanish and Portuguese do you?

Would love to dump some of you in a foreign country you don't speak a lick of the language in and see how you go

My sister does as lived in Badajoz which is almost on the border of Portugal & Spain so she did the duo lingo but the locals had their own lingo which was a mixed bag & a lot of things she picked up on which were lexical similarities between the 2 languages.

You can say it is similar in South America too between Brazil & the other counties around it.

According to this journal Portuguese speakers generally pick up a fair amount of Spanish but not vice versa. Although, I've heard of many people having great difficulties communicating in Brazil when they've assumed people would understand Spanish. One would assume Darwin would understand at least some Portuguese after two years of living there. I remember Quique Flores getting a lot of stick for not learning Portuguese when managing Benfica.

I generally think fans fixate on this too much. If you look around a lot of the best clubs in Europe, there's no attempt at many players bothering to learn languages and it doesn't seem to effect them too much at all. You would figure out a lot of the basics via immersion, it's not like they don't train everyday. Apparently Bayern operates in French a lot of the time and even some of the Germans like Gnabry speak French because the French speakers can't speak German properly. Pavard gave an interview about it a little while ago. The Dortmund documentary from some years back showed Terzic doing a secondary English team talk whilst Favre was shouting in German. The Real Madrid stuff is well documented too. It's part of the modern game.

Exactly. Just look at Harry Kane. Almost 30 years in England and still getting by without having fully grasped the language.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Portuguese has many slight similarities, but it's the pronunciation of words that throws Spanish out. My dad can barely understand a lick of Portuguese for example. So written language they'd be able to read and piece together, but when spoken it's a lot harder to grasp.

I agree. This is just being used as another stick to beat Darwin with. Total wank just latched onto because Klopp made a off the cuff comment about it, when discussing things Darwin needs to get better at.

Ok then. So he’s just a dip**** generally, rather than a dip**** who’ll never pick up the language.

Haven't seen anyone quiz him on algebra or quantum physics yet, so cant really decide if he's just dumb

Why's he a dip****? Because he lost his cool and semi-head butted that Swedish cunt that was winding him up all game once? He's South American ffs. They're emotional and lose their cool, it comes with the territory. He learnt his lesson. I'd argue he was a bit reserved after that though. Those first few games he was really getting under opponents skin and battering into them, agent of chaos. He kind of stopped after that to a certain degree.

Also, footballers aren't generally the smartest bunch are they? The captain of England is colloquially known as the 'crayon eater' ffs The list of footballers with the IQ of a plant would run deep. Doesn't stop them running around booting a ball though.
