The worst thing is he has the potential to be an amazing striker, good height, strong, fast, good aggression, if only we had gotten him a dedicated finishing coach to work with him, striking the ball in the final moment etc. Hate to see the onslaught seems like a good lad and he works hard to be fair. Would love him to succeed but time is fast running out.

Listening to Slot talking about Darwin in the presser and how he can accept the chance was missed but that he isn't happy with how Darwin reacted in the 20 mins after the chance & that is what Slot isn't happy about. Saying he didn't work and help the team like he usually does and got in his own head. Said he will talk to him about that and tell him that you can miss a chance but you can't not miss out on work rate.

Yeah, pretty damning really.

TBH his work rate and effort seems to have dropped off a cliff since the Saudi rumours. Probably checked out already, knowing he's off. Don't blame him really.

You can see how much the outside noise gets to him. He's put a ****load of pressure on himself in his own head. Someone at the club needed to shutdown his social media use the moment it was apparent that he reads it all and how much it gets to him and affects his performances. Id argue the majority of his issues pretty much all stem from his head.

Would love to see how some of you heroes handle thousands of "fans" online hating you from day one and relentlessly hounding you every time you made a mistake btw

I was being ironic but equally it was a bit silly of me to say that, I was pissed off with his miss, his joking around with Martinez after the game and his sulking. We can see that he is a guy that feeds off his emotions and as you said most of his problems are in his head.

Tbh, I would like to think that if I was a professional sportsperson I’d do my very best to avoid social media and get a third part to manage it for me. Clearly reading the negativity surrounding his form has a massive impact on him, I think he wants to “prove people wrong” but I think he tries too hard and overthinks stuff. Yes it’s all amateur physiologist stuff but that’s what it looks like from the outside.

And that would be the common sense way to think about it, but in reality, and even if a sports person has a dedicated person or team to handle their social media, they will still have people within their group or entourage that will come running with tales of someone "talking ****" about them online.


It might be a spouse, a family member, a friend, a hanger on, but someone will come and get in their ear and relay stuff.


And it only gets worse if a sports person is from a nation that is social media or reality show mad or a nation where machismo in ingrained in the national pysche and away from football it gets worse again in sports that are supposedly more "macho" like boxing, MMA etc.

A lot of people's SM persona is who they are so not sure how they'd let some else represent in that way. Just bin the lot of it
