Dianne Abbott lends nothing to the joke and in fact makes it worse.
She might be annoying and duplicitous on occasion but she's not "dumb" so why was she picked?
It's not random.
It would read better if the target of the joke was someone famous who was known to be/pretend to be geographically ignorant (joey essex/jade goody RIP)and wouldn't lose anything from having an unnamed target such as "a blonde".
I'd imagine this was how the joke originally read and at some point someone decided to change it to Dianne Abbot and insert a particularly unfortunate picture of her.
Ask yourself why on earth someone would choose to do that.

I think the joke is meant to be read in an Jamaican accent making it a racist joke. Can't see why it's meant to be funny for any other reason.

Why would it be meant to be read in a Jamaican accent?
Countdown and County Down don’t need to be read in any particular accent to sound like one could be mistaken for the other.

Don't worry about it. Norbs is just going off on one. I don't think anyone who has ever heard a Jamaican accent could concluded that it makes the 'y' sound less pronounced.

i have now re-read your post and see better that you were not agreeing that my comment was racist, but felt it helps to perpetuate the racist/bullying of women and people of non white ethnic origin.
like i said... if it was originally written about boris then thats what i would have posted, as its still funny either way. no one would claim it would be racist if it were about him, but maybe grumpy tory middle aged white guys might be upset as it stereotypes them... i doubt anyone would be getting all touchy about a joke about boris, would they. no balance...

if boris bellend johnson would have been the main character of the story then id have just copied it as it was. both are well known for coming out with ****e and making a tit of themselves.
thats all there is to it. if you or anyone else thinks that to make fun of someone who is non white is racist then you need to give your collective heads a wobble. to consider anyone else other than a whitey to be above taking the piss out of them as its racist then you really have lost the plot.

The joke is simple wordplay that didn't require any particular individual to be the 'butt' of the joke in any personal way. The joke doesn't relate specifically to Abbott, nor even even to a politician. Yes it's an example of a 'gaffe', and she's had a few notable ones. So have Boris Johnson and any number of white men in the public eye. That there is a disproportionately great fondness for making the choice that a black woman should be mocked therefore raises a question - why should this be? Whether it makes this specific joke racist in some way is not absolutely self-evident. But anyone who can't see why the question might be raised is blind to how racial bias is perpetuated.
