I'm saying that bedding in Lucas into a much more functional team at the time doesnt completely mirror the situation as it is now, in bedding Carroll into one that isnt as functional & rounded.Originally posted by Lecter View PostWe havent scored enough goals with Carroll in the side and we havent scored enough goals with Carroll out of the side
So who are the passengers???
Whilst looking at the outlay on the 2 players relative to the squad weaknesses exacerbates the problem, the issue is there regardless of cost.
Both you & Craig are intelligent reasonable posters but I feel you're both being bloody-minded & almost denying that there's any issue whatsoever in response to the inanities of the likes of Truefan, rather than discussing the more reasoned concerns of others.
I think we are a much more potent attacking force when we field Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy & Suarez as in Hawg's article above.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Dont get me wrong I dont think hes been good enough so far but I do feel some of the criticism is way over the top
One thing I will say is that IF Carroll is playing then so must Downing as despite my view of Downing he is really the only player we have capable of supplying balls in to Carroll
I also feel that a lot of the stick levelled at him could also be applied to some other players - particularly the goalscoring (or lack thereof) oneBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Furry muff mate.
It's certainly true we arent scoring enough as a whole, although I think part of that is that we dont have the integrated attacking unit we saw at the backend of last season. Also, as mentioned above Suarez already brings loads to the table even without scoring, although I agree he dones need to improve his clinicality big time.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I'm not trying to pretend AC's been great either, he hasn't been good enough overall. But the difference is, I think there's definitely something there and enough to work with. The criticism has been wildly OTT, words like '****' & 'atrocious' have been used which I find melodramatic & when he's played well, it's been largely overlooked.
I don't for one minute think he should play every game & I agree that we shouldn't try to carry passengers. I also don't think, however, that it's as simple as 'Carroll is ****, it will never work' etc. I think part of the problems are down to him but some of it isnt his fault & I've seen plenty enough to not write him off as a failure who will never get to what we want him to be.

I think we are creating the same volume and level of chances (if not more) as the back end of last seasonOriginally posted by PC Plod View PostFurry muff mate.

We are just being incredibly profligate with those chances
Even against Fulham we had good chances to win that game and its been the same in every game this season (other than Spurs)Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

You look at Carroll for someone "lacking in game intelligence" hes making runs and getting on the end of some chances
You dont do that if you are as thick as two short planks
Yes his build up play isnt great etc.. but hes far from stupid in terms of having a football brainBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I've said this before but I think part of the 'problem' with his partnership with Suarez, is that Suarez is unpredicatable, this is good from our point of view and it causes a problem for defenders, but it must also mean that it takes alot of time for his striker partner to get used to. If Carroll is trying to play a ball to Suarez be that a pass or a knock down, if Suarez doesn't do what Carroll expects then he ends up wasting the opportunity and people get on his back.
I think due to the unpredicatablity of Suarez a partnership between the two of them is going to take alot longer to develop than it would between more 'predictable players'.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If we don't have the wingers/players capable of that, then we'll have to get some!
Selling AC is not the answer imo, and i don't think it's even crossed Kenny's mind.

it makes sense. It's not all Andy's fault IMO. Downing was brought in, to deliver. But, he's worse than AC, tbf. Probably, overall, Andy is just not suited to this game (yet?), but i really, really hope Kenny and Steve can sort this out...
I say bring Nolan = WIN. :shy:
