I agree with Chris, there are some teams he'll do well with, but he has not got enough to his game to play for a top team.

hard to come on today and make an impact when the mindset of the team was just to retain the ball. I feel sorry for him.

If our style is going to be this tippy tappy, me to you, you to me style, the lad has no chance. Yet if we could get wide and get the ball in the box with quality and do it quickly, he may have more luck. we need to mix our play up more.

Thing is, if he plays Downing on the right and Bellers on the left no one will be able to whip the ball in.

When he brought Carra on today, I was hoping he would go three at back and provide some width
I make no apologies, this is me

Not having a go at Carroll (enough people to do that for me), but a professional footballer should have no problem with playing simple, posession football, or 'tippy tappy' if you like.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

actually I think both bellamy and downing can whip them in with their favoured foot and because they'll be inswinging crosses, carroll just needs to make the right run to get a touch, like sktrel did for the goal today.

there is no point having a tall striker if you're not going to try and get deliveries in. it has to be his main strength. I think the crossers need to have the confidence that andy will make the right runs, its chicken and egg.

We always played like this under Kenny, we were never a side which played with pure wingers. It's a bit of a throwback to football in the sixties, with Steve Highway sprinting up and down the line and whipping crosses in.

so who would you drop for carroll

Well we were alright with Crouchie and he we never played with wingers back then. He has far more game intelligence and technical ability that Carroll will ever have.

the problem is he's getting his touches outside the box, he isn't going to beat 3 men and then get a shot in. we are guilty of over playing a little and players eventually stop making the runs.

Which makes it even more baffling why we signed him mate. I think we panicked and brought someone in after we sold Torres.

crouch could actually play and if anything he was criticised for not using his height to his advantage

I don't disagree with this at all. Crouchie had many more assets to his game. although carroll is better at attacking the ball in the air and has a ****ing hard shot on him. but this isn't a competition between the two. whoever scouted carroll must have seen what his strengths and limitations were. it just doesn't feel like we're set up going forwards to fit carroll in. its very hard, as we can't carry passengers, because we need to keep picking up points whilst trying to play players into the side.

suarez needs a rest for me, perhaps a ban if its instant wouldn't be the end of the world as long as its 3 games.

Maybe not the end of the world but not good if it's anything to do with the racism case he's caught up in at the moment.

A ban would mean he's guilty therefore he would be a huge target for abuse.

I can't see any good coming from a scenario like that tbh.

At the start of the season we tried that and it didn't work - Downing and Henderson putting crosses in for Carroll and for whatever reason AC couldn't connect with those balls. Pass and move is the way forward, relying on a big targetman is not our style at the moment.

It really baffles me how, after a good and comfortable away win (where Carroll's played about 20 minutes, during which we dropped back into 2nd gear and hardly bothered trying to break a sweat) people's instinct is to come onto this thread and slag him off/write him off etc. Really really odd.
