However, I don't subscribe to this "he's been treated badly" thing. He's a player who has a certain style, that doesn't happen to match the style that the (new) manager wants to play. He's not going to play him for the sake of it, nor is he going to waste a space on the bench/let him rot in the reserves. Therefore it made sense for both parties that he was loaned out.

Fair point. Such a shame we jumped into that transfer on deadline day. In hindsight we should have kept the money and invested well in the next window. But as they say hindsight is a wonderful thing

I never said anyting about that he got a new deal but when they signed him up to replace Roy then it was very much a PR move IMO.

He earned a new deal.
