Andy Carroll has revealed his delight at finally securing a permanent transfer to West Ham United from Liverpool on a six-year contract.
The fee has not been disclosed but it is believed to be in the region of £16m – and West Ham have confirmed that the transfer is a club-record deal.
Carroll, who was signed by Liverpool from Newcastle for £35m in 2011, spent the 2012-13 season on loan to the Hammers and scored seven goals in 24 games for Sam Allardyce’s men as they secured a 10th-place finish on their return to the Premier League.
“It’s fantastic for me to be here. I really enjoyed last season, and that shows in me coming back and making it permanent,” Carroll told West Ham’s website.
“The fans, the lads and the club itself has been great to me, and what I wanted to do was come back here and play football.
“Since the end of the season I’ve had a lot of time to think, I’ve missed it and that’s why I’m back. Getting promoted the season before last, then finishing where we did – we did great, and it can only get better for us.
“The way the club’s being run, obviously getting the new stadium and everything like that, it’s only going up.”
The east London club also have the option to extend the 24-year-old’s contract by a further two years.
West Ham described Carroll’s capture as a “marquee signing” and a “significant step” for the club as they prepare to move to the 54,000-seat Olympic Stadium in 2016.
The Gateshead-born striker, who scored 31 times in 81 games for Newcastle, is hoping to add to his nine England caps ahead of next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
I know I was horrified when we signed him, I know I've taken the piss out of him a bit....but I really wish him well. Seems a very nice lad - the move to us was too much for him, he seemed totally overwhelmed playing for us and with that transfer fee weighing him down. Hope he does really well.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think it will be good for both parties. The club never really got away from the fact they paid £35m for him and he never got away from being judged as a £35m player.

Someone should tune into Talksport. Adrian Durham says Rodgers refused to coach/train Carroll as he wasn't his 'type' of player. The master of bollocks
