I hope he does well there, I've got nothing against him in the slightest, it was 100% the club's fault.

We decided that we wanted £15m plus Carroll based on initial valuations, kept going back to Chelsea as Newcastle demanded more and more for Carroll, and eventually Chelsea paid us £50m for Torres. Very odd circumstances, that led to both Torres and Carroll being saddled with inflated fees that the press could use to beat them with.
Thanks for that, very clear. It makes it all seem much more sensible.

I wish you'd put it all like that about two years ago though. It might have saved a lot of hassle on here.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Then again you probably did and no one - me included - paid a blind bit of notice.

Would never have dreamed we could have recouped £19.5m for Andy.

I thought the fee agreed was 15million?

Assuming he's including last seasons loan fee's, though as I have no idea what they were off the top of my head that's a guess.

So with loan fee etc. we recouped about half of what we paid

Must be one of the worst transfers in the history of the club! Well it is the worst...

Didn't work out for him, doesn't fit the new managers system and wish him all the best at WH, needs a team that will play to his strenghts.

As Andy Carroll is now a WHU player. Can this be moved to the general footy section with a title change as well

It's a bit weird, David Gold has tweeted it's done, but no Offal announcement yet ?

Do West Hams web site have it as official breaking news i wonder.

I think it's more fashionable to call him 'Ben Drew' these days, and I can't understand the grief he's getting on a football forum

IIRC it was mentioned or at least suggested at the time, Newcastle held us to ransom and we passed it again the chain

                              :candle: for Roman Abramovich.
