Weird, on my tv Lucas didn't really play reserve football, but Leto did and was constantly a stand-out performer on the left. I suggest you retune your tv.

I didn't say he played all season, but it was enough to add to what i've seen in addition to his poor first team performances to let me know he's been poor. He played a few games and I saw him. As for Leto, your high rating of him would explain why you're so easily satisfied by Lucas' performance. And Leto was great for the reserves, but his first team appearances were far from that standard. Kinda like Mellor in that respect, but Leto has the ability to make the grade.

Shows potential, which is why he was brought to the club.

As for Lucas, I saw him play in one game and that was the final reserve game last season in which he only played as he volunteered to do so because the reserves had injuries. He was great and scored in a 3-0 win against Villa.

Not conclusive at all. Many posters here would have you believe Rafa knows best. Yet El Zhar is just where on that list. Rafa gives him first team footy, and Leto gets kebab for a year.

It's the comment after your question that leaves me tearing what little hair I have left out of my scalp. It's almost as though folks are willing to blindly accept Rafa's judgment as gospel. He's a great manager and i'm glad we have him, but he makes mistakes. How often did he play Nunez and Josemi? Don't even get me started on Dossena. Maybe he feels that if he persists with Lucas, he'll come good. But at the moment he is poor. And just because Rafa chooses to play him, it doesn't mean otherwise.

Is it not possible that maybe Rafa's judgement is sometimes wrong? Maybe his judgement on Lucas is wrong.

Or maybe he is keeping faith with him because there are signs of potential and Rafa has the patience, rightly or wrongly, to persevere?

The bit about rafa knowing what he's doing implies that he cant ever make a mistake or be wrong, when that's not true.

He was indeed v.poor in that game, but then I remember pretty much the whole team being rubbish.

But yeah I'd be surprised if he plays again for us. The first issue is if he gets past the passport issue, and secondly if Rafa still rates him/has better options at LM.

I did however read somewhere that he is performing well in Greece/Turkey wherever he is so you never know.
