i have to agree with some of the points that kingfunk makes.

Robbie keane wasnt given a chance at liverpool to succeed. I cant believe that some of you genuinely believe that he wasnt good enough to play for us and became a bad player after he joined the club.

The sad thing about this whole affair is that robbie keane is a genuine liverpool player and will always have the quality to be one. He was used by rafa benitez as an example of wanting things his way at anfield and im thoroughly disgusted by his behaviour.

We all have opinions on players (mostly always on their ability rather than them as people as we dont know them) but i have lost respect for rafa after the keane episode. It goes to show that he might be a good manager but he's definitely not a fair one. He bombed keane out plain and simple as a point of principle. It wasnt a footballing matter.

The lad was a liverpool fan LIKE US, and realised that dream of playing for his boyhood club - a dream that we all share. Its like one of us being selected to play for liverpool only for rafa to get the hump and marginalise us because he didnt really want us. How would you feel if this happened to you ?

It was **** all to do with ability and all to do with politics. This club was built on sound morals and unbiased principles - that is the liverpool way. We say that the owners dont understand the liverpool way but neither does benitez.

          keane didnt deserve that.

So i presume you would have been happy if keane stayed with us for the remainder fo the season and cost us the league tiitle? Keane was becoming an unwelcome distraction.

Keane seems to have really disrupted the team whenever he played thats the truth.

I never thought Keane was good enough for a top 4 side. Neither did my Tottenham mates. It's not that he became a bad player but that he couldn't raise his level - he had his chance and wasn't good enough. If I had the chance to play for Liverpool I'd take it too but that doesn't mean I'd need a full season to prove I wasn't good enough to play for the side I supported as a boy.

In short I find your argument entirely one-sided. It's perfectly possible there is a political dimension but to assume it had nothing to do with Keane's shortcomings is myopic.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

                      From the Mirror:

Robbie Keane was last night forced out of Liverpool before completing an incredible return to Tottenham.

Keane, who only moved to Anfield for £20.3million in July, was determined to stay.

But boss Rafa Benitez bullied him into rejoining Spurs after warning he was prepared to let him rot in the reserves for the rest of the season. Republic of Ireland striker Keane, 28, even told Liverpool he only wanted to sign for Tottenham on loan until May.

But Benitez made it clear that the forward had no future on Merseyside while he was still manager.

The bitter breakdown left Keane with no choice and he returned to White Hart Lane for an initial £12m, rising to £15.5m.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

                        “DEAR Mr. Keane,

On behalf of Liverpool Football Club, I apologise for the way you’ve been treated. When you not only signed for the club you supported as a boy, but were given the hallowed number 7 jersey in the process, it must have been a dream come true - but the way that dream descended into six months of nightmare was unfair and completely uncalled for.

To never being given a chance to find form was unfair. To be dropped and benched time and time again while having the burden of an unjustified price tag was also unfair. To be a part of a squad that no matter how you performed, how hard you trained, or how much heart you gave to the club was never going to matter.

You have remained professional throughout and showed signs of ‘making the grade’ with the goal at Arsenal and two more against Bolton, alas you we’re dropped for the next match and saw only 75 minutes of league action since.

I, and many others, wish you well on your return to Spurs - and can understand that your feelings towards the club you’ve always loved may have changed. Many of us have supported you, and wanted to see you get a fair chance, but it was never on the cards. Alas, you were just one of the toys thrown out of the pram during our manager’s month of madness, where he thought nothing of treating a consummate professional as a pawn in a political game just so he could prove his point and get his way.

See you at Anfield on the 24th of May.

                        You deserved better,
                        A Liverpool Fan“

                        This is Anfield.
These are my taughts exactly. Best of luck Robbie. YNWA

Hmm, I wonder if it's unlike a newspaper to reduce a complicated and rather tedious story, the truth of which they probably don't actually know, into a simplistic, sensationalist tale where one protagonist is cast as the goodie and the other as the baddie. It seems even harder to believe a tabloid would act like that.

i think he scored 7 goals this season which isnt bad considering he has only played for 65 mins in most of those games. Rafa didnt even replace him which means that he thinks we didnt need him and never did in the first place.

I think towards then end, it became clear that keane wasnt wanted and any player in that position would lose confidence. But early on he worked hard and did well.

By losing a player of his quality we have reduced the quality of the squad when we have the league and cl to fight for.

                            Its rafa being stubborn.
