I believe that. Seems every player, or ex-player - has the same opinion.

      Hodgson surprised by scrutiny
Reds boss getting used to pressure

      Hodgson: Admits scrutiny surprise

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson admits he has been shocked by the level of scrutiny he has come under since his arrival at the club.

Hodgson took the reins of the Reds during the summer after departing Fulham, where he led the Cottagers to the Europa League final last season.
But things have not gone smoothly since his move to Anfield and Liverpool currently sit in the Premier League's relegation zone.

Hodgson says the transition to the Merseyside outfit has been tough but believes he is getting used to the pressure. "This football club have a lot of players who have played for Liverpool for a long time," he said.

"Every other day they've probably read or heard some nonsense about them and they seem to be a pretty hardened bunch.

"I'm relatively hardened but I've been spared too much at Fulham, where never a bad word was said.

"It is an interesting thing for me to get into the type of mindset Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard are so good at.

"Having heard and seen it all before they are quite prepared to shrug their shoulders and write it off.

"It is part and parcel of the business of working for Liverpool Football Club. I am beginning to turn it around myself."

      Bolton trip

Liverpool travel to Bolton this weekend and following a win over Blackburn last time out, Hodgson is hoping for an upturn in form.

He added: "I hope we carry on from where we left off last Sunday because I thought that was a good team performance and a great victory.

"It is very important from the first minute at the Reebok Stadium we are as committed as we were for 90 minutes against Blackburn.

"Coming into the next quarter of the season, I'm hoping it won't be as traumatic as the first one has been.

"I am hoping by the halfway stage we will be starting to see a little bit of light.

"I'm not believing naively we are going to win seven out of nine and fly up to the top of the table but I do want us to move from of the relegation zone.

"I want us to continue giving performances where we know from first minute to last we are going to be very difficult to beat and we are going to ask a lot of questions of the opposition."

Liverpool Manager Roy Hodgson Attacks Rafael Benitez’s Big Money Signings And Plans January Arrivals

Boss wary of January transfer window
        By Matt Monaghan
        29-Oct-2010 3:37:00 PM

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has insisted he will use the January market to land players at the "right price" and attacked Rafael Benitez's transfer record.

Hodgson, 63, has endured a disastrous start to his Anfield career as his side currently sit in the Premier League relegation zone. Reports have emerged this week, however, that owners New England Sports Ventures are prepared to sanction a fresh wave of investment in players as long as they represent future value.

Speaking to the club's official website, Hodgson hoped to compete with "Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter" for the right calibre of stars to revitalise his squad.

"If we want the right quality, we have got to be prepared to pay the right price," the ex-Fulham boss said.

"The owners know that perfectly well. We have got to make certain that if we go out and spend £20m, we are getting a £20m player.

"We want to be attracting the players that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter are chasing. It would be nice to think that we can shop at a high level.

"I'm like all managers in that I'm wary of the January transfer window. I think it can be dangerous as clubs try to correct mistakes.

"But, having said that, we are going to be very interested in trying to improve our squad in January. There is no question about that. I am sure we will sign players."

Hodgson added: "What I would hope to do is get this group of players playing well enough so we don't need to panic.

"Then I can say to the owners, 'If we are going to spend a lot of money, let's get the right man.'

"I don't want to spend half the money that might be available on someone for the sake of buying when the player we actually want might not be available until the summer.

"The lucky thing is that we are rebuilding around several top-class players. We have got Reina, Carragher, Gerrard, Torres, Kuyt - it's not as if we are rebuilding from nothing."

Hodgson also aimed a swipe at the recruitments made by predecessor Benitez after Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani failed to make an impact.

He said: "I think you can pay an awful lot of money for poor players and you can pay not very much money for very good ones - it is all to do with how good your scouting and your eye is.

"There are a lot of things here that the club has got to get right. We have got a lot more expensive failures on our list than good players that we have brought in for next to nothing.

"Free transfers don't necessarily mean that you have got a bargain. My experience of them has been very mixed. You need to be sure that the player you get can do the job you want from him."

        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just **** off Roy. Are you referring to Poulsen and Konchesky signings? His appointment has to be the biggest ****up after the epic swindle of the club by the 2 cowboys. Even Souness has more class than him!!

I think actually he's having a go at our free transfers. And lets see who came in lately and whether they are performing. Jova probably isn't paid THAT much, albeit he is utterly pointless, so in other words he's having a veiled go at Joe Cole who is undoubtedly paid a lot, but has done next to **** all.

I honestly think that what we will see in the next few years or so is clubs talking much more about transfers and players in terms of total package - i.e. including their wages. E.g. I was talking to an American baseball fan recently who didn't really understand the concept of transfer fees, but totally got the idea of how much Hicks had spent on that A.Rod geezer. All wages by his account.

And in fairness, you have to admit that when you consider wages as well the game changes. For instance Cole actually gets paid. I mean think about it. Paid real money. For doing..... what he does.....whatever that is.......
        Really?

Maybe if Joe Cole had a manager who wasnt utterly inept and clueless as to how best to use him, he'd perform better.

That quote you've highlighted makes me want to kill myself in the face.

7 wins out 9 is nothing out of the ordinary for us, and we went on several runs like that under Rafa.

His inspirational appointment sees constant rumours about our top players and the man does nothing to dispel them. He is so gaff prone that I reckon its only a matter of time before he sticks his fingers in the toaster or slips on an escaped Werthers Original and breaks his hip.

Absolutely. Bar Chelsea we have no-one to fear in our next ten games (or shouldnt do anyway)

He wants to turn us into Fulham mk2. Get all his mates like Poulson, Konchelsky and that 68 yr old coach in. More ****e like Carlton Cole in January, and then finish the season on a magnificent high by finishing 17th or better.

Maybe if Rafa was in charge, Cole would actually manage to direct a cross in to the box more than one time in ten? He's been poor, and it's mostly not down to the way Roy is using him imo.

I think it's all getting a bit OTT, to be honest.

Yes it's getting tiring but he must put us out of our misery by resigning - or NESV needs to sort it out and sack him.

There's no way back for him, unless he wins the European Cup and the league and disguises himself into Rafa.
