Not necessarily. He and Pepe are very good friends and I am sure he could have convinced him to come as El Cuntino did with Chelsea.

Anyway, my point was that we didn't even bid and that is the problem.

If player doesn't want to come that is fine but we need to be there with other top clubs when it comes to recruitment of best footballers and I am not so sure we are.

You could easily roll out Rafa's poor last two season's and say he needs to prove he still is a good manager, which would be bollocks, managers don't lose their marbles until they go senile.
How old are you if 20 years is overnight.

Isn't it rafas last season. His second to last season was when we finished second. I think if Rafa is out of the game much longer then your right. Or you could say that you have to continuously have to prove you are a great manager and this would apply to all.

Kenny won the league 17 years ago, so not quite 20 years.

Rafa's spell at Inter was a disaster, hence two seasons.

I do believe that with this team rafa would get us into te champions league.

          Ahhhh, that's lovely.

I think part of the problem is that teams have figured us out. Sit back, absorb the pressure at Anfield and ride a bit of luck. Too one dimensional when teams sit back. Need more from the wings.
            Oh I don't know.

I think half the problem our signings is having with fans is so many expected your world class players to be signing for a club that isn't even in Europe and wouldn't be challenging for the league this year. Neither can we offer big big wages like both manc clubs & chelsea.
His father also said he not going anywhere this year and that he would stay with Valencia and he still left.

If we had sumbitted a bid, which we didn't, we don't know for sure if he would've said yes or no but what is more disappointing to me that we didn't even try.

But Rafa wasn't as perfect as he's made out to be sometimes, and I loved the guy.

So 17 is closer to overnight than it is 20?

Who knows? The only thing that's more ridiculous than arguing about it is using a hypothetical situation as supporting 'evidence' for why Dalglish should be sacked or how things would be different if Benitez were manager or whatever...
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think you're over-estimating Pepe's hold on where Mata would go. It's very naive to think that clubs need to bid to find out if a player wants to join too. I'd says clubs have the go ahead from the players agent the majority of the time before they do indeed bid.

Bottom line is Mata joined a club challenging for major honours. Asking him to join Liverpool in the summer would have been a sideways step for him.

Exactly. You're not sure. I'm not sure. None of us are sure.

So let's all stop using guesses to support our point of view, eh?

                              This approach could gain momentum.

I think Kenny can take us forward BUT the purchase of Carroll and Downing may well be his downfall. Its a lot of money on very average players. as for Henderson he is still a young lad and things might happen for him.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.
