we are only a few games in, have been rotating starting line ups & we have had the option of using 5 subs in each game.

IMO it's not burn out at all, could it be that we are just be that certain players are off form, certain players are done at top level, certain players are having trouble adapting to the system and confidence is low throughout the team because of it? We ran City in to the ground in the charity shield & blitzed Bournemouth. IMO we simply are just not playing well.

Interesting that Sadio Mane also appears to be suffering some kind of performance hangover this season.

His recent performances being described as half-hearted and devoid of energy and impetus.
Sounds familiar to what we’ve been seeing from his old teammates. It’s worth noting, that Mane didn’t take any part in LFC’s pre-season.

Tbh he was also fairly underwhelming for us from left wing towards the end (where he's playing for Bayern)

He scored roughly as many goals in the first half of the season from LW as he did from CF in the 2nd half.

It wasn’t peak Mane, but I don’t remember his effort or intensity dropping off a cliff, as with his old teammates this season and now him too by sounds of it.

Think there's any chance it could be covid-related?

Long covid brain fog kinda thing.

We are well overdue for major rebuild...
Giving new contracts to henderson and Salah has hamstrung our ability to spend on some new blood.
Our future planning has gone to ****, we have brought in a few decent youngsters but we haven't cut out the slackers at the right time so we have big batch of dead wood.
Our main established players are all goosed, the young talent cannot carry our dead weight.
We had a glory period where our main scorer was on fire and it papered over the cracks but despite our great success it was clear to me that there were gaps that desperately needed filling. It reminds me of the suarez days, one amazing player dragging the team to heady heights, and also the Gerrard days.

Stop hugging these bums, stop giving new contracts to ageing players with dodgy injury history.
We don't need superstars for £100m+ but we need reliable decent quality players in all positions.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Our pressing is gone that is a big part of our game. The loss of Mane is big in that regard as he was one of the leaders of the press

I disagree with Mane... I think Diaz presses just as well, and provides a similar goal threat. HE was getting too old, as his game relied on pace a lot. We needed to start phasing out the old guard, and I think Diaz has been the first success.

I don't mean it as a cricism of any other players we have now or anything, but IMO Mane was one of the leaders of the press high up the field and was very effective at it. I'm not saying Diaz doesn't work hard or press opponents he does, but the way Mane did it worked well with the team or the team had an understanding of when he would press and went with him. That isn't happening the same with Diaz - maybe it comes with time I don't know. You can argue that Diaz offers more going forward than Mane did, but IMO we miss the pressing that Mane was so effective at.

Is that the only problem in the side? Clearly not, but if we were able to win the ball back high up the pitch and play the game in the opposition half/final third, less of our weaknesses are exposed.

If we’re playing 424 with Darwin and Jota up front it would make more sense for diaz and Mo to switch flanks especially given the fullbacks aren’t pushing high to provide width.

It’s great having four attackers but they’re all attacking the same spaces.

Mane was at the end of his time, we did well to get good money for him……he’s coming under big scrutiny as they’ve had a poor start by their standards. I just wish we were as ruthless at shifting some of the others in the squad that had been showing sign of regression

I think that’s just his way, he is a super extrovertial character and it might be construed as arrogance but I agree on the book. Too many release them before retirement, some players nearly have an annual one! Never seen a coach do one like this though……. It’s like his book hovered up all our fabled intensity
