The chit chat about Trent moving to right midfield...
Our wing back system puts a lot of pressure on the full backs, they have to attack and also sprint back to cover when we lose the ball. The right midfielder or the DM is supposed to help cover the gaps so the right centre back isn't pulled out of position too much.

I wonder if the yards covered per game by Trent or robbo are much more than other team mates. It may be that the amount of sprints will be more telling than just 'yards' as they will cause more fatigue.

It's clear Trents defensive work has fallen off a cliff. He really doesn't look arsed.
If we were to play a 4-4-2 and he was to move to right midfield and we played Calvin Ramsay at right back then it would certainly allow Trent to play his attacking game without having to do so much deep defensive work. He would still have to track midfield runners and I do wonder if he has the 360° vision for this role. He often is blind to opposition players behind him.

Rather than a rigid 4-4-2 it would break down to something like 4-1-3-2 with fabinho or henderson being the DM.

Poor Calvin, he'll be ruined by the time he's 23 too

You’ve articulated my reasoning perfectly. I’d like to see it given a go against fodder or if we’re chasing a game

Problem is that there are few teams we can call fodder this season. Forest and fricking Leeds put paid to that idea.

We have just been dumped by Brighton.
So many players are well below their best. Why have so many turned to ****.
If klopp is still the the right man for the job then how has he let this deterioration happen.
Never mind that we have terrible injuries to deal with, I'm talking about the guys who turn out on the pitch and play like total strangers.
Some of senior players really can't be arsed, or are totally past it.
It really falls to klopp to have been ready to clear out some of thee guys rather than give them new contracts, and now the core of our team has turned rotten.
Blame the players, yes. But why can't klopp see it...
If he is taking the training sessions then surely something stinks and he isn't savvy enough to have kicked them up the arse and shared a few home truths.
Trent can't wait to get home and on the x box

To be fair how many of us saw all the players that went backwards this season, for whatever reason or reasons, doing so and so quickly.

Sure plenty of us wanted to see Henderson become the new Milner this season with a younger guy going in at RCM and so on.

But both full backs seeing their form dip? Henderson and Fabinho seeing their form and mobility fall off cliffs? Salah's form dropping below the levels he was showing even as recently as last season?

Then a bunch of injuries to Diaz, Jota, Firmino, VVD, Matip (ok everyone saw that one coming ) and so on.

I imagine Klopp was like many of us and figured that the team that was in the hunt to do a quadruple right up to the end of last season would rally for another season before needing to be broken up.

Klopp and his team are to blame for some stuff. The players on the pitch are to blame for some stuff and yes the owners are to blame for some stuff.

What is much more important now than wondering what went wrong is whether or not there will be the stomach (and financial backing) to work hard, wield axes, bring in new blood and start the rebuild process in the summer. Yes we can scream we should be doing that this window after how the first half of the season went, but the summer is really when we find out if a genuine rebuild and reworking of the team/squad is going to happen or if the same old either not spending enough or wanting to stiuck with certain players too much is going to continue.

Only thing I know for certain is we have seen great teams and had great eras that then were followed by periods of muck before rising up again. This is now a period of muck, just remains to be seen if it is a one season period of muck followed by a rise or the start of a prolonged muck era.

It’s obvious that the style of play is affected by subtle changes being brought over this year and change of personnel. It’s tiring to hear we’re in a crisis when we’re not, and it’s just the end of an era and the start of another one won’t be too far.

The Paisley era saw us maintain a very high level by bringing in new blood before we saw an appreciable decline so we were able to continue being dominant almost seamlessly.
If we looked to replace rather than handing out contract extension's we would be half way to a rebuilding of the aging spine of the team.

I fully get this. I fully see why people are 100% convinced we'll come good. But what happens if we just keep losing games, at what point does your confidence waver? Is there a barometer in your head when it's not OK? Genuinely interested.

Why comparing to Paisley era, that was 40 years ago.

If next year we still see a decline then maybe there might be a switch to say now we need a change. We might lose a few more games this season but I’ll accept as I know there is upheaval.

Yes I get that. But what if we lose the next 4, 5, 6 games etc. I think there may be a point where we don't get to see a next season under klopp. I think we're that poor it's a distinct possibility. In no way am I wanting klopp out and I hope we win enough games to give him a chance to rebuild. He deserves it. Could you see ant point where klopp decides to walk?

He could decide to walk yeah, if he’s tired of the same questions and having to face the same thing he needs time to sort. We went through a similar period 2 years ago and it took losing 5 games on the trot for a turnaround to happen.
