I think we might well be, especially against teams we worry about. I just suggested over in the Rodgers thread that it seems to me like and attempt by the manager to get defensive shape more like it would be with an appropriate DM given who is available to him at the minute.*

Hmmm. Interesting. I think at this stage the conversations are a bit too tangled to make that work. I think it is one of the defining things about Rodgers that he brings a certain type of play that he doesn't deviate from. So any discussion of him as a manager will necessarily also involve a discussion of his preferred style of play. I'll put it to the other mods in our secret lair and see what they think.

I think the idea would be that whichever defender is in a position to do so will be encouraged to move into midfield and make angles for others. The key part is that the person on the ball always has options. In the end I think it likely that Agger will be the one that takes advantage of this freedom more than the others.

I'm no football tactitioner but wouldn't our system need work for each system we encounter? I doubt it's a one size fits all scenario.
