I think the additional goal threat Sturridge provides, means that there is more space for the forwards meaning the opportunities for more direct plays arrive more frequently. I don't think previously we weren't looking for these opportunities, I think that as Suarez was on his own he was crowded out, now defenders have to share their attentions between him and Suarez these opportunities arrive more frequently.

the results seem to show the more direct approach will get us more goals, especially against better opposition.
i think we have fallen against 'lesser' teams when we have been expected to be allowed time to pass the ball about but some have come to play and pressed us, nullifying the ability to tika taka.
hoof it and get some goals scored. enough of thispissingpassing about

is our poor defending down to the full backs having too much emphasis on getting forward as extra wingers.
is it because lucas if too high up the pitch to sit 5-10 yards in front of the centre backs.
but surely neither of would excuse the poor defending from set pieces as there is time for players to get back into position...

I think it's a half arsed attitude that's the problem, they seem to know they have to put in the effort against the big sides, it looks as though they think that just turning up for the rest of the games is enough, despite on so many occasions being punished.Originally posted by baitman View Postlooked decent against arsenal and city, but have looked lazy against oldham and west brom. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

After watching us recently I think the way we set up encourages us to play a low tempo game which is a problem, when other teams are behind and they can up the tempo and pressure the opposition. After watching us be behind in games recently I don't think we have this ability to play a high tempo at all. This is something that Rafa's team was accused of - valueing possession above everything, but Rafa's teams were capable of controlling games and could up the tempo when required - that great run in 2008-09 owed alot to starting games at a high tempo and getting leads early in games. The current team fails in a couple of areas - they don't control games and the don't have the ability to play a high tempo, which makes them frustrating to watch. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Agreed, but I am worried at the players he has brought in to play his system. Aside from Sturridge they have not been good enough nor shown any real value for money.Originally posted by danperkins View PostWe simply do not have the personnel to play the type of game Rodgers wants us to play. completely agree.
Allen has looked dreadful & Borini even though it's early and people say you shouldn't judge... i think he looks like a headless chicken,no composure and have terrible technique. And as for Assaidi.. well who knows!
Rodgers is going to find himself under severe pressure if we lose to Swansea & get knocked out by Zenit (who IMO are very beatable)
