And Slot has told Grav to get forward more. It's all a big mess and he needs a rethink.

No problem with Grav getting forward if the other midfielder is going to drop back and provide cover. The problem we’ve had is that Alexis has been really poor this season - look at how easy Caicedo got past him yesterday and there was then nobody else available to close him down. He’s been miles off the paceOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostAnd Slot has told Grav to get forward more. It's all a big mess and he needs a rethink.Last edited by rudedog; 05-10-25, 04:45 PM.

Yup get back to what works and go from there. Let the team settle back into things and build from there. There is enough quality in this team to score goals if they can keep possession and put pressure on teams for long periods. Get the press back as well and get at teams when they’re not set and goals will be scored.
The break might be good for Slot and his team to have some time to rethink things and figure what they want to do tactics wise when the team’s back.

Stopping Grav going forward would be a start, it's leaving the defence exposed on the counter. Dom in midfield is essential and MacAllister getting back to anywhere near his best would be huge. If the midfield is solid maybe Slot will give license to the fullbacks to get up the flanks and gets some service to the front lads.

Disagree with your take on last season. We were excellent and consistently the best team in our fixtures throughout the season. We were a very efficient team, capable of going for the throat, or simply controlling the game and limiting the opposition to low quality chances. Depending on what the game state required.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostI stand by my observations last season that we didn't play well in a lot of games but kept coming away with 3 points. Eventually it catches up with you. It's just when you win, it's always glossed over. You forget and enjoy the 3 points. This season we are regressing and I don't see how we suddenly play well again. When did we last put in a full 90 minutes? Spurs? Hardly much against a team as open as they used to play. It's been a struggle for a large period of 2025.
The first liverpool boss to get such large amounts of money to spend and we're worse than before!
It may not always have been as exciting as Klopp’s full throttle football, but it was still totally convincing and effective and is what enabled us to consistently play the core players without suffering too badly from fatigue.
This season though has been completely different. The ability to control games has gone and we’re a soft touch for opponents to get at. Our ability to progress and get our forwards involved has regressed too. As a result, many of the wins have been unconvincing, relying on late winners to rescue flawed performances..

Not going to be a popular view but looking at the signings we made in the summer a wingback system appears to suit them gets Frimpong and Kerkez going forward and providing the width Wirtz off the front two. Problem is it doesn't suit the existing players and we only have 3 CBs at the club. Not suggesting we play it as to be honest I don't really like it as a system but putting it out there...The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Clearly the forwards have been bought with a life after Salah thought process, the problem we have is that we haven’t fully considered a life after Trent and Diaz scenario yet.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostNot going to be a popular view but looking at the signings we made in the summer a wingback system appears to suit them gets Frimpong and Kerkez going forward and providing the width Wirtz off the front two. Trent progressed the ball from deep and we have nobody who can do that like him (VVD can help). Diaz’s pace and directness haven’t been replaced either and we look v one paced right now.
I think 3CBs would def suit Frimpong as that’s what Leverkusen did and I’m sure it would also help Kerkez. The thing is that Slot’s never used it, we avoided Amorim for exactly this reason and we are v light on CBs in the squad.
The diamond looks more possible but that would mean moving Salah up top and again Arne hasn’t shown that. A lot of what I’ve read recently suggests that he often used 4-4-2 at Feyenoord. This could also work.
Football seems to be going full 80’s with long throws, set piece goals, target men and physicality. If this is the case then 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 is back on the menu

Not sure I’ve ever seen Gakpo crossing the ball, have a hunch he prefers cutting in and shooting himself… over to the other side, Salah…. Uhm this request might be difficult….Originally posted by Kenneth View PostHow do we get Isak the ball in and around the box? That should be the whole basis of our plan.

This is what I see too - our attacks either peter out, go backwards or break down altogether when either Gakpo or Salah get the ball. They're both pretty much one trick ponies as well and for whatever reason, don't even perform this cutting inside trick particularly well any more.

Yeah. Salah and Gakpo lack any pace or threat. Teams just sit back and block because we are so predictable
We need to play wirtz isak and ekitike in tbe front three, with last years midfield.
Salah is albatrossian at the moment with Gakpo limited in what he brings.
We need to play to our strengths until our defence tightens upIn the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
