Has Sterling ever played up top on his own? tbh I'd rather he played off Balotelli as you can guarantee Ramos and Pepe (if they start) will be kicking lumps out of players and I'd rather we didn't have that happen to Sterling.
I'd look to play something like this whoever plays as CB is going to be a worry and it'll likely be Skrtel and Lovren - let Sterling play off Mario and drift around the pitch dragging players with him and hopefully allowing space for Coutnho to get into.

Johnson..........Skrtel...........Sakho........... .Moreno..

...........Henderson..................Allen....... ..........

I'd go with that too. Maybe Cout in place of Allen and Lallana behind Sterling.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostHas Sterling ever played up top on his own? tbh I'd rather he played off Balotelli as you can guarantee Ramos and Pepe (if they start) will be kicking lumps out of players and I'd rather we didn't have that happen to Sterling.

I'd forgotten about Lallana tbh, it's nice to have some depth in midfield these days.Originally posted by cream View PostI'd go with that too. Maybe Cout in place of Allen and Lallana behind Sterling.
It's a winnable game this but we need to set up to stifle Ronaldo et al and try and get at them with pace.
Mario needs to turn up for this and deal with the undoubted thuggery from the Madrid CBs

It seems subdued on here.
I know there's a fear factor here, but I'm going to really try and enjoy this one regardless. It's been so long since we've been part of a massive European tie like this! I'm going to enjoy it as best as I can.
The illogical part of me still thinks we can put in a performance and get something out of the game, the logical part of me thinks they will pick us apart. Either way I'm going to ****ing enjoy it!

I look forward to it with some trepidation, we can get at them but we need to set up in a diamond IMO, I guess with Balotelli and Sterling upfront. No experiments or changes of formation, let's just use that formation and stick to it and get the players going.Originally posted by Pablo View PostIt seems subdued on here.

I can't wait for the game tbh. I still honestly think we've got the components to be a very good side it's just not quite clicked yet. Hopefully the occasion will get the players pumped up enough to give a really good performance and click us into gear for the weekend game vs Hull.
It's not going to be easy but we've every chance of getting something from this game

I'm hoping for a degree of complacency from Madrid. I think there's a chance they will view this as a fairly easy win given the way we're playing. I'm not sure they'll be fully prepared for how up for this the fans (and hopefully the players) will be.
If we can start quick (not a forte of ours this season) with a really high tempo I think we really could catch them by surprise.

I'm really looking forward to it actually, it's a good chance to see what our players and Rodgers are made of. As PTP said above I'd be more comfortable if Rafa was leading us into this one
but I'm excited to see what Rodgers does tactically and what side he sends out. I think our new players will be shocked at the atmosphere and I hope it spurs them on enough. Getting a result would be massive
