Not watched MOTD but I mentioned in relation to Moyes comments that this would now be a discussion againOriginally posted by Big-Red-Ed View PostMotd saying not a penalty. That Mo is a diver. I didn't think it was penalty in real time but did on seeing the replay. Definitely enough contact for me.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

That’s a pen.
Don’t recall that sort of commentary when Man U were getting one every week.
there is a clear agenda against Mo - he gets pulled, dragged and rugby tackled most games for no foul. It was a clear pen

I'm still not seeing the foul Mane does on the defender for Jota's first 'goal' Sky claimed it was for a foul on the defender not the keeper. MOTD not making it clear either way.
Shearer's suggestion though that it was 'just' a foul so rightly disallowed but the foul on Salah wasn't enough for a penalty. Am I the only one spotting an inconsistency here? For me you can't have it both waysThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If that’s Harry Kane it’s ‘clever play’ for the penalty... if you’re a foreign player, you’re a diver. Murphy is an appalling waste of oxygen... parasite on the club. LFC should distance themselves from ex-players like him

I know that ultimately it didn't affect the result but as I have mentioned the first Jota 'goal' was disallowed for Mane's foul on the defender not the GK (according to Sky). That is something that is really unclear even having seen it 6 or 7 times now. Ultimately it was ruled out by VAR and that decision needs to be explained, the pundits on MOTD or Sky need to be able to show that and explain it.
Perhaps as with all the recent VAR confusion there has been some miscommunication and it was disallowed for a foul on the GK (but I can't see that one either) I don't know, but clearly there is a VAR communication problem that really needs to be addressed. In the last 3 PL games we have had 3 or 4 big decisions go against us that have been difficult to see / understand. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I am finding the modern pundits frustrating I don't think many of the former PL players that have finished playing in the last 10 years are that good. In particular I am frustrated by many of the the former LFC players, Murphy as you say is a waste of space he offers almost no insight whatsoever, I find Jamie Redknapp annoying (but never really took to him as a player either) and Jamie Carragher is clearly knowledgeable about the game but I find it frustrating how negative he is against us it's like he is going too far to show that he isn't biasedOriginally posted by Tribute View PostIf that’s Harry Kane it’s ‘clever play’ for the penalty... if you’re a foreign player, you’re a diver. There was decent contact and therefore a pen. But mo doesn't need to throw himself to the floor. Not just Mo, but any player should be ashamed to do it. But the backing in here suggests he's justified in doing it as people just accept theatrics as part of the game. It's a shame. No one can say hand on heart that was a normal movement. He felt contact and swivelled and dived.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostHe made the most of it. But there was clear and hard contact with the guy swinging at his ankle.

Problem is if you don’t go down you don’t get the pen, it’s ridiculous really as it forces the players to go down under contact which causes these daft conversations about is it/isn’t it a pen.
If justified pens were given for contact and not the actions of the player that was fouled I think we’d see less of it; takes the refs doing their jobs properly which is where it all falls down

Whatever VAR thought, the red reviewed the incident at the pitch side, so it's up to him to explain the decision, Sky can't know that. I thought it was a foul, Mane's left leg fouled the defender and his right the keeper. The decision wasn't in the same league as others that have gone against us.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI know that ultimately it didn't affect the result but as I have mentioned the first Jota 'goal' was disallowed for Mane's foul on the defender not the GK (according to Sky). The swivel is normally his movement in those areas. The tackle hurt him, you could see him holding his ankle not even bothering about the referees whistle or if he got a penalty. Are we winning?

The weakest part of professional football is refereeing. Noticeably so. Even with the aid of accurate technology referees are being regularly exposed as the chancers they probably always have been. I don't like seeing diving but it's become the new offside law, i.e. carry on doing it and let the video decide afterwards.
Ironically, yet unsurprisingly, Utd have actually trailblazed this borderline dishonourable activity. I'm all for Mane, Salah, etc, spending much more time on the floor - under actual contact though, like yesterday. One tit for another.

It's not in the same league, but it's still another decision that is unclear even on reinspection. Whether the decision is made by the VAR official or the on field ref using the monitor if a decision is changed or reviewed there needs to be an explanation for everyone's benefit.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostWhatever VAR thought, the red reviewed the incident at the pitch side, so it's up to him to explain the decision, Sky can't know that.
