I gave examples like this, but he said they were better than Lucas so they didnt count.

I think its a case of he has argued into a corner, now its difficult to retract it.

After reading the latest posts from John Doe, it appears he resents and is jealous of Lucas.

      Why would that be?

Is John Doe, Jay Spearing ??? (moaning because he doesnt get a game). As I cannot see another reason for constant tripe

If people cannot see that Lucas is a great player, at tender age of 24. Then people know jack **** about football.

Lucas is class, he is getting better and better every season. He is not up to Hamman's level just yet, but it will not be to long before he surpases that level

        What is a defensive midfielder?

I think you will discover that in the two words, defensive and midfielder.

He play to protect the back four. Not to attack. He play to break up the play and to win the ball. He play to be an option when the other players get into a tight situation and be an easy target to get out of that tight situation.

If we played without a defensive midfielder then when an attacking player get into a tight situation then he would need to play the ball back to the back four instead or to Reina. If you play with a defensive midfielder then the pass would go to him instead 20 yards or so higher up the pitch.

If you want to play a compact team with a high defensive line then you must play with a defensive midfielder.

United by the way always played with a defensive midfielder the last 25 years, Fletcher is probably their most important player. Anderson usually plays in that position and so do a certain Jones. Butt played in that position a long time and as already mentioned so did Phil Neville.

        City play with De Jong.

I think they had better players around them than Lucas has. It's impossible to substitute Lucas in to those teams to see how he'd perform but it can be concluded that Chelsea's defence was better than ours at the time, which would've offered him more protection anyway so could cloud our judgement in his favour I'd like to see if Makelele in our team of 2010 would've won us the league. I doubt it.

Lucas is great, he has so many characteristics that are needed from a team player and he just gets on with it. **** all gets past him and his passing game is developing nicely. Against Chelsea we had 7 attack minded players including the full backs who are apparently dodgy defenders. Lucas is a great defensive protector, the best in the league. If he wasn't, it'd show pretty quickly

I wish people would pay more attention - Daniel 7 called 'end of' two full pages ago FFS.

                And yet still it continues.

I remember the days when someone calling 'end of' was respected by all. Now it's treated as incitement to squabble pointlessly.

                You people.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

He was out injured but almost always play when fit.

I am still fairly sure he has fallen out of favour, read somewhere that he was not an automatic choice in midfield.

Your wrong on this one Arn. He hasn't been playing this season even when fit. Last night was an exception. Only had 3 starts in the league all season.

Seems to be preferred in the Champions League. 5 games there. You cant tell me he has been injured in between all these games.

That's OK, Alex, you're not the only one and far from the worst.
