No comment, contract negotiations are private.

Certainly not come out with spiel about an incredible deal and the club not being willing to give a player way more than he's worth.

That's when Sterling started getting pelters which he's now felt the need to defend.

Fair enough I suppose you are right on that one ...

I don't see how our manager gets any flak for his comments ,

One thing from what I have seen of Brendan is youngsters are given a fair crack of the whip , and he is the one who has turned him into one of the best players at the club ,

Any young player out there must see that, don't want to hear this BS about winning trophies , cos who does that really leave him to play for out there ?

I get the impression that we've handled this very well. BR wouldn't have made public comments unless we needed to up the pressure in the negotiations. If the publicity encourages him to sign then great, if it forced him to show his hand whilst deflecting attention away from the club and onto the player, then great too. I don't believe for one minute that it has encouraged the player to leave. He's only one player, him getting possibly undeserved criticism matters little and is preferable to the club getting it, even if we deserve some.

It sounds like the bleatings of an entitled player who's had nothing but smoke being blown up his backside from a very young age. He hasn't achieved anything other than potential as yet, and that he's such a high profile player is more to Brendan's faith in him than anything else.

I won't miss him if he goes, but would prefer if he realised his potential at Liverpool. I'm entirely nonplussed by him.

Wasn't Rodgers responding to stories about Sterling being linked with other clubs and LFC not making enough effort to keep him? (Presumably Sterling's agent playing the media game).

As for Sterling himself, what does he really need to defend himself from?
He was offered £100k a week, if wanted to stay he'd have signed it.

The fact that he's rejected it and is arranging his own interviews about that and wanting to win trophies is a massive deliberate cooey to the current big European clubs.

He's made his feelings public, in person, no more rumor about it, we all know the score now, so we need not mention it again, he's done us a favour, we can all forget about the Sterling contract till the summer window.

As he relies so heavily on acceleration and pace, he's potentially one injury away from being a pretty average player. £50m would be awesome.

Yes, look what happened to Owen, Torres etc. That's not to say he'll actually have that injury of course...
