Raheem Sterling tells Liverpool he wants to leave but club insist youngster is going nowhere

    22:55, 18 May 2015 By James Pearce

Sources close to the player have revealed that he told Rodgers of his desire to move on before the recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea

Liverpool FC insist Raheem Sterling is going nowhere this summer - despite the unsettled youngster informing Brendan Rodgers that he wants to quit the club.

The Reds are adamant they have no intention of selling the 20-year-old England international, who has two years remaining on his current contract.

Sources close to the player have revealed that he told Rodgers of his desire to move on before the recent 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Carragher: I'd be embarrassed to walk into training if I was Sterling

Sterling wants to leave in search of Champions League football and to play for a club better equipped to compete for trophies. His camp have also accused Liverpool of leaking confidential details about contract negotiations.

However, Liverpool have responded by saying that their position remains unchanged and they don't intend to listen to offers for him this summer.

Sterling and his representative Aidy Ward have agreed to another round of talks with the manager and chief executive Ian Ayre later this week.

Liverpool hope they can convince him that his future remains at Anfield but they are ready to play hardball if he continues to push for a transfer.

Owners Fenway Sports Group refused Luis Suarez's request to join Arsenal back in 2013 when he tried to force through a move to the Emirates and they are ready to adopt a similar approach.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have all been linked with Sterling.

His future has been the subject of intense speculation since he rejected Liverpool's offer of a five-year contract worth around £100,000 per week in March.

The former Queens Park Rangers trainee then gave an interview insisting that he was motivated by trophies rather than money.

Rodgers has always been confident that the contract stand-off would be resolved this summer.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: "We’re still pretty relaxed on it.

“The club will pick it up again with Raheem’s representatives in the summer.

“Everyone wants to win trophies and play in the big competitions. We will just reinforce what our stance has been all along.

“This is the best club for him at this moment where he has the opportunity to play, to fight and to be competitive.

“The owners are very much supportive of that. Raheem won’t be going anywhere in the summer, even if there isn’t a deal agreed.”

Sterling has scored 11 goals this season but his form has slumped dramatically in recent months. He has made headlines for all the wrong reasons after being pictured smoking from a shisha pipe and then inhaling laughing gas.

With Steven Gerrard leaving the club to join Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, Liverpool know they can't afford to lose another key player.

What's the difference in Sterling's value when he's got 2 years left this summer to 1 year left next? 10 million?
So roughly the same amount we've earmarked to pay him during that period if he decided to sign the contact on offer -wages, bonuses, signing on, image rights, incentives etc...

That's why we won't be pushed into selling this summer, as a club we're no worse off selling him in 12 months time.

I'd leave the contract on the table for him to sign, add in a buy out clause (if it isn't already there of circa £50 million) and leave him to stew.
It's the Euro's next summer, if he isn't going to sign then only pick him if his form deserves it, if it doesn't leave him out altogether.

The more Sterling is worth the more his agent gets, having him left out of squads, out of England squads because of a contract dispute means Aidy Ward is losing money.

Every PL top 4 team would have him in their squad.

There's a story in the Mail which has come via Ward as well.
Deflecting away from Ward, saying it's all Sterling and that some lfc players have told him he should leave.

No. I've seen his full quote though and he didn't say that.

Just all the usual crap coming from the player and his agent then.

As fans we are all sick to the teeth of modern preening young players thinking they are better than they are before they have even done anything of note in the game.

I am very sure of FSG after seeing them handle the Suarez situation couple of years back that we come out of this smelling of roses.

Sell him for 40 million at least especially when Shaw cost 30 as a full back.

Or keep him under contract and make him tow the line.

One other thing I am reading thru all this is how his relationship with the manager is strained and maybe would consider signing if a new one was brought in,

Well I say to that **** off you ungrateful young prick.

One thing we can all agree on Brendan has been great for Sterling's career so far and for that he can do one.

If Raheem sterling asks for a transfer with a request he loses his right to bonus payments, pay offs etc...

If it appears that the club sells him against his wishes we are liable for the remainder of his contract, loyalty payments etc...

His agent is just posturing to get the most money out of the deal because he wants sterling out of liverpool

He's just a kid, I'm not going to judge him. I hope he gets his head sorted and stays. Though no doubt the abuse will further increase and he'll be gone.
I dont give a **** whether he goes or stays

I dont think hes as good as he thinks he is, hes an awful long way to go before becoming anywhere near the finished article and there is always that suspicion that this is as good as it gets and he might not push on in his development

I dont know what it is but I have this sneaking feeling he will end up like SWP

He can definitely **** off though. There's plenty of players with much better game intelligence out there. If only we could identify them!
his game intelligence and decision making is generally poor, its ones of the reasons I'm not quite convinced he will become the player some think
