Agreed. I think it was triggerred off by BR having an ill advised blert but I think that was just one of his regular idiotic blerts rather than anything engineered. It wasn't exactly setting precedent.

Everything since is just in Sterling's head. He's a kid, it's got to him, no doubt his agents in there further stirring it whilst he's copping abuse all over the place.

I don't think either party has necessarily done anything engineered or designed. Just stupid.

I don't think his form will worry buying clubs, they'll assume it's down to the strained relationship and the stress associated with wanting out.

He can definitely **** off though. There's plenty of players with much better game intelligence out there. If only we could identify them!

I know some people have been giving him a bit of a rough ride, but I think he is a good promising young player who is definately better than he has shown in recent weeks/months. He has been played out of position and has still got a decent return, and for much of the season has been one of our better players.

I think that he has been badly advised, and IMO a huge amount of this comes down to his agent getting in his head and manipulating a move for his own ends - He is wanting to make a name for himself now he has gone it alone and Sterling is his star client. I think that Sterling has huge potential and is risking his future by trying to move now, sure someone else could give him more money, but I don't see him getting the same amount of games elsewhere, and sitting on the bench won't help him develop. IMO his best option would have been to stick with us a couple more years and if we aren't challenging for honours and he has continued developing he could move to someone who is and move almost as a 1st team regular. Now he may walk straight into a regular role wherever he ends up, or he could do a Shaun Wright-Phillips and spend two years on the bench before getting a move to a bottom half of the table side. It's his call.

To be honest I am not that fussed, maybe because of the **** season we have had or the fact that we've been through these sagas with Suarez, Torres, Mascherano, Alonso etc and all of them IMO were more important to the side than Sterling is now, if he changes his mind and wants to stay great, if not I'm not that fussed, we just focus on getting the best fee possible hopefully from a foreign side, but I suspect he's going to another PL side.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Was about to type pretty much exactly the same.

Rodgers is spot on, Sterling has been ill advised. He should play the long game, really establish himself as a good player, at a club like Lfc, that will give him game time, playing with good players. He'll be set up to move on in 3 yrs if he wants to, with a wealth of game experience behind him. His earning power grows steadily throughout his Career.

Alternatively he takes a chance and moves to a Chelsea /
City. Doesn't play enough, limits his development and by 26 is a Villa type player.

If I was his agent, i'd be advising his best options for next 3 yrs is to stay with us or move to arsenal.

The big concern for me is not losing him, but the knock on effect it has on the rest if the squad /
          Potential signings.

What I don't understand is if it's true that he told Rodgers he wants to leave before the Chelsea game why did Rodgers still play him? Also why did he play the full game against Palace despite being ****e? Anyhow he starts against Stoke after last nights revelation then I've lost all respect for Rodgers. He needs to show some balls here by booting the ungrateful tosser out of the squad this weekend.

I would say without doubt, no top player would give two hoots as to whether Mr Raheem Sterling is at Liverpool Football Club or not. Losing Gerrard will be far more detrimental, there are no other top tier players here to entice others to join, and that point remains with Sterling here and without.

Manchester City wait in wings for Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling’s representatives are to hold showdown talks with Liverpool this week amid growing fears over his future, with Manchester City ready to move should the winger ask to leave Anfield.

Contract negotiations between the two parties have been on hold since February when Sterling rejected a new deal worth £100,000 per week. The intention was for discussions to resume at the end of this season but at the request of Sterling’s agent, Aidy Ward, a meeting will now take place on Friday.

During the three months since talks took place, the respective positions of player and club have become increasingly entrenched. While Liverpool insist that they will not allow Sterling to leave this summer and will hold him to his existing £35,000-per-week contract if he fails to sign a new deal, the England forward’s camp has continued to agitate for a move.

Liverpool, though, have always maintained that a compromise is not out of the question and hope that the face-to-face meeting will give both sides an opportunity to clear the air and start afresh. Having agreed a new contract with Jordan Henderson, the club are looking to do the same with Sterling, although the strong likelihood is that they would have to increase their last offer significantly for that even to be considered.

Regardless of City’s interest, Liverpool have yet to receive any offers for the 20-year-old and insist they would reject a bid if one is forthcoming. Sterling has two years left on his present deal and although Liverpool recognise that selling him would be unavoidable next summer if a new contract is not agreed, they do not see any value in sanctioning his sale in the forthcoming transfer window.

That stance was reflected in Liverpool’s recent decision not to follow up their interest in Memphis Depay, the PSV Eindhoven winger, who is on the verge of completing a £25 million transfer to Manchester United. The combination of Daniel Sturridge’s continuing recovery from hip surgery and Liverpool’s determination to retain Sterling meant they viewed the acquisition of a proven centre forward as their main priority and they pulled out of the race to sign Depay as a result.

The possibility remains that Ward could upset Liverpool’s plans by informing them of his client’s desire to leave or even to notify them that City are ready to lodge a formal bid. Such an approach would test Liverpool’s resolve to keep a player who has become an increasingly unpopular figure with the club’s supporters while the stand-off has continued.

Steven Gerrard has urged Sterling to commit his future to Liverpool, advising him that Brendan Rodgers is the best manager to guide him at this stage of his career, but throughout this process Sterling’s camp resisted whatever pressure they have come under to sign a new contract.

Adam Lallana has described his first season at Liverpool as “very average” and claimed that his attempts to make a significant impression at Anfield after a £25 million move from Southampton last summer have been undermined by fitness issues.

“It’s been very average to be honest,” Lallana said. “It is just my fitness that has frustrated me. Every time I feel like I’ve got going, I’d have a niggle here and be out for two weeks. I started the season with an injury. I feel like I’ve got a lot more to give next season, get myself fit and if I stay fit I feel I will contribute my best to the team and we will move forward as a team and get back into the top four places.”

Easy to fall into the trap of believing Sterling's being driven out of Anfield by his agent. The agent is doing what the player wants.

Also easy to believe club = good guys & player = bad guy. It's more complex than that. Liverpool are an easy club for good players to leave.

Agents smell vulnerability at clubs, it's part of their job. Right now, Liverpool's vulnerability (and mediocrity) is there for all to see.

@TonyBarretTimes didn't seem to be the case for Coutinho and Hendo. Reasonable contract requests.

You're right about top tier players but it's the general message that our supposed better players leave that worries me.

If I were daniel Sturridge or jordan henderson i'd be having doubts about my future right now.

This is a big transfer window.

When Suarez flirted with Arsenal it wasn't an easy club to leave. FSG probably think each player has their price, but I think it will be a football related decision as to whether they move them on.
