We can't have a Liverpool captain with that running style. No.

Although Henderson has that skip, maybe we should decide the captaincy with other factors in mind

Staggeringly stupid article. Suggesting Coutinho isn't in Sterlings league is laughable.

There is, of course, an outstanding exception: Sterling. Now there is a bona fide gem. Phenomenally skilled, he is also physically and mentally tough beyond his years, single-minded and uncompromising like a warrior, a winner. He has a rage to thrive at the top and an intolerance of mishmash floundering and small-timers. He has dared to prove himself bigger than Liverpool, which is one of the reasons why Liverpool should have taken exceptional measures to keep him, rather than patronise and pressurise him in a way they were incapable of pulling off successfully. Philippe Coutinho is a lovely player and there are others at Anfield of high promise, but only Sterling looks a surefire bet to become a great; losing him looks a terrible prospect.
I think Paul Doyle rang Aidy Ward for a contribution to the article.

Raheem Sterling - Liverpool FC Captain.

                  I can never accept that.

Not going to be popular opinion on here but I think he carried us for half a season which is more than the *ahem* current club captain has done.

Before his head was turned, that article rings true. He did have a Suarez-esque work rate and tenacity about him.

I don't think many here will disagree about Sterling being a better player than Henderson. But captain material? Nah, no way. An embarrassing article.

Regardless of his technical ability he is 20 years old and is still very inexperienced. It is very rare that young players are made club captain, IRC Gerrard was about 23-24 when he was made captain and had experience as vice captain. Very few senior sides make such a young player captain, also he (Sterling) is an attacking midfielder / winger and is rare to make players in such positions captain (compared to CBs or CMs for example).

Even aside from that if he were to mature a bit he doesn't strike me as a player with the right mentality to be captain.

Sakho was club captain of PSG at 17!

This tends to happen sometimes for local lads. They hope the player will go on to be the heartbeat of the team while having that real connection with the club as a local lad. Torres and Gerrard are two other examples of local lads who got captaincy of their clubs at young ages.

Give a player captaincy after he downed tools the 2nd half of the season and completely disrespected the club through the media? **** off

Was he club captain or just captain for a game? I think the coach at the time was fed up with the team and replaced them all for one game with the youth/reserve side, which Sakho captained at the age of 17.
