Well Coutinho has been playing well so who's place do you expect him to take? Yes on the weekend he could have played instead of Allen as Lucas was injured slightly but prior to that I'm not sure who's place he could have taken.

I think we need 3 in the middle to counteract our soft centre, I think it'd be ideal if they were Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson.

I think Henderson chases and pressurises the opposition better than the rest of our midfield.

agree on this..... however, it is a long season....you don't play the same team week-in, week-out. In reality, if Lucas was fit enough for the bench, then he should have started.... and i agree about Henderson in front of Allen (to be honest, on Saturday I would actually have played them all and started Sturridge on the bench......Luis is on fire in the central role and DS could have come on when their defence were tiring....)


At the end of the day though, the team put out should have been good enough to beat Southampton.....

Had he played Suso, Shelvey or Sterling....then we should have still had enough quality....

The fact that Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Johnson.....all played poorly..... Gerrard, Allen and when he came on, Lucas all didn't exactly play a lot better..........this isn't the managers fault.....

A midfield two that contains Allen would be my least favoured option and I think it leaves an already struggling midfield wide open

Southampton also pressed us high up the pitch very early on and its something we've struggled to cope with when other teams have done that this season

Football isnt about which team looks the best on paper, it involves other factors such as tactics, desire, aggression etc..

For a long time now Allen has been struggling to impose himself at all, on or off the ball, and that might be down to his shoulder. Either way I think BR should be looking at alternative like Hendo. But it's easy for me to say that when I don't know what tactical reasons he may have for finding Hendo unsuitable for that particular role.

I don't know which of the two statements in bold triggered the other event, but either way could you please disappear from here until the end of season?

Only kidding, I agree with everything you've said. Every time Allen starts you know there's going to be trouble. Its not that Allen won't be good at some point in the future, its that everyone knows he is useless to us right now.

But its one mistake we can afford Brendan for all the good things he's done for the club up to now. A repeat won't be taken so well though.
