My fear is that it is too much too soon, should have been evolving the squad but midfield in particular over last few years, obviously we didn't but for me I would want to have a Henderson type character around while the new guys are settling in, even if he just plays the 'Milner role' and does most of his work in the dressing room rather than the pitch. For me that is the better scenario, as others has said I would have preferred him to leave in the way Milner did and get the recognition he deserves for what he has done in his time here.

Yeah, i can't believe the amount of posts that said we couldn't lose Milner and Hendo in the same window. Of course we can.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostLast season we had a group that knew each other well and have played many games together, and for the most part they weren’t good enough.
All of the leadership and experience that these players supposedly bring wasn’t particularly evident either.
Ideally we would have rebuilt the midfield in stages over the past few years and phased the new players in season by season. But we ignored that opportunity.
I think we’re at a stage now where it doesn’t particularly harm us to make wholesale changes. It’s probably preferable to the alternative of persisting with too many players in the squad who are past their prime.
There are at least 3 international captains in the squad and we're not exactly a super young team. They'll be absolutely fine with Milner roaring them on in rondos. I'm all for leadership in the team but we've plenty of experience around.
Its not often you get offers for players on the wane, when you do, you should snap their hands off (i include fabinho in this).

If he’s that mentally weak, then good riddance. If he’s good enough, he’ll play plenty of games and no one should be above fighting for their place in the team. Tbf though I don’t think this is the case- when he came back ripped, I took it as him pulling his socks up, to get back to his best, and giving it all to make sure he is playing.Originally posted by Scratch View PostIf his playing time this season is going to be limited, then I can see why he'd want to leave
Think it’s just about the money. An offer he couldn’t refuse, and prob one he thinks he prob wont get again.

agree with everything here, but especially with what you say about the leadership not being there last season, when we needed it. Easy to be a leader when everything’s going well.
I think I’d have been fine with it, if it was the start of the window, but pre season has started now, it would be good if we had the squad more or less finalized.

Generational wealth that though. 3 years at £36m per year?
I wouldn't begrudge him that for a split second
Perfect servant for us. If he wants a bumper pay day before hanging up his boots, who can blame him
I'd much rather Fab goes than Henderson though

If his playing time this season is going to be limited, then I can see why he'd want to leave, but the destination is a surprise, given his previous stance on LGBQT+ rights, unless he feels he can do more from the inside looking out.

Eye has been off the ball. Too huggy, lack of ruthlessness.

Last season we had a group that knew each other well and have played many games together, and for the most part they weren’t good enough.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostYeah but we will be starting the season with what is essentially a completely new midfield none of whom will have played together before this preseason, having a unit that understands one another is what you need to hit the ground running, failing that players with experience in there are key, we will have neither.
Like them or not Henderson and Milner where huge characters and the leaders of the squad, those other guys might have experience at the club or with their national side, but the fact is at LFC they have always been able to 'hide' behind Henderson or Milner, if they go, there is nowhere to hide, they have to step up, it's a different dynamic which will take some getting used to as a team, and requires them to sink or swim as leaders of this side...
