We need to challenge for CL spot regardless if we are going to get it or not.
We did not do that with Kenny did we. Not even close.
    Oh I don't know.

No we didn't but the goal was CL spot and Rodgers should be the same.

I think the goal should be the same. That doesn't mean that we should sack him if we fail. It depends to a degree on what progress we make, how close we come and how much the players in the squad have bought into his philosophy.

If we see clear progress as a team and miss out on the CL by a point it would be madness to sack the manager. From my point of view whoever was in charge at the start of this season would need a season to build from the off field and squad stability we have more or less achieved now (i.e. no need to sell off players to pay for loans, etc).

Do you reckon he would have got the sack if we missed out on 4th by goal difference?
          Oh I don't know.

Give Suso a pre season run out and I'm sure he'd show more in 30 minutes than Adam has in his entire career the same way Sterling instantly showed up Stewart f'n Downing at the tail end of last season.
Has anyone actually argued that we would get into the top 4 with or without Adam

Havent seen any suggestions regarding this

Unless we completely bomb out under Rodgers I dont want him sacked anytime soon

Even if he only moves us from 8th to 7th we shouldnt sack him, we must have a clear long term strategy and I for one dont want to be swapping my manager every 12 months unless its absolute necessity

I asked Matt this question in another thread and I'll ask you the same

What do you think of the potential signing of Sigurdsson??

I think he'll improve us. Young, talented, genuine potential and he'll cost what he's actually worth which will be a refreshing change to last year's transfer startegy.
I assume he'll either be used as backup to Stevie or he'll play in the AM role and SG will play as an inside forward similar to Suarez. Either way he's a genuine upgrade on what we have.

The point I was trying to make is that we can't become a top 4 team with players who would seriously struggle to get into QPR's starting 11 - Adam, Carroll, Spearing and Henderson.

I dont see us taking the leap from where we are now to top 4 in the next season

Personally think it will take 2 or 3 seasons for that to happen

Hence why they wont be shipped out this summer imo

I'd sell Spearing & Downing though asap, and would also let Cole & Aquilani go

I agree with you that achieving a top 4 finish this season will be a difficult task no doubt but with the right signings this summer then who knows.

I agree with your first two comments. We will have to wait and see on the third, because talk is cheap.

And I think that when you see what a good manager can do with no signings (Everton) and an average manager can do with good mid-priced signings (Newcastle), I think it is reasonable to hope that a good manager with good above mid-price signings (which is what I hope we have and will be) should be able to challenge for a top four slot. Then it is down to how well the money-bags teams (Chelsea, Man City) spend their money and play and how well the unbalanced squads (united, Arsenal) keep it together. And whether Spurs have another good season in them.

jordan henderson is the perfect modern day midfield player. all he needs is experience and he will be develop into a nice little player for us.
