One of the best Prem defenders, in the last 10 years, has been Vidic. He's always pulled/grabbed opposing players shirts. It's a big part of his game. He's a Utd player and it's NEVER been the focus of a Sky discussion/analysis. Skrtel's a Liverpool player, he's been excellent this season and we are jumping on the BT Sports (Michael Owen) bandwagon of criticising Skrtel the naughty, shirt pulling scallie. Get a grip people (no pun intended).
    Another MASSIVE game

Re: our defence (conceding goals). Skrtel is part of the problem. He isn't necessarily THE problem. Can we hire Rafa as a defensive caoch consultant?

To be fair to Skrtel, Kompany is excellent in the air. It's a concern we concede a lot from corners but I think those issues are just showing that we're still a team in progress. Thought our defensive shape was excellent last night when not in possession of the ball.
        Are we winning?

The issue is not the shirt pulling, it's the failure to win headers because he's too busy shirt pulling . not just last night but all season, we get away it sometimes, other times not.

            This is exactly right

For seasons now on set pieces he has had no interest in playing the ball

Sorry that's just rubbish, Vidic was twice the player Skrtel is.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

"@BreakfastPercy: Skrtel's fault in Kompany's goal means he's now been directly at fault for 5 aerial goals, one every 284.2mins, the worst of any #LFC CB"

Things we can establish about the City game

                    1) Vincent Company is Man City's deadliest threat at corners
                    2) Martin Skrtel is Liverpool's weakest defender of the ball at corners
                    3) Martin Skrtel is assigned to Vincent Company
                    4) Goal

Seems that the obvious course would be to assign Sakho to the opposition's main aerial threat in future and to let Skrtel track the second option

Some good stats about our CB's on that lads time line. The only partnership not to concede and aerial goal is Agger Toure. They didn't play much but they did play against stoke and villa, two teams good in the air.

I don't understand where everyone's comments are coming from. I think he's brilliant and had saved us from so many certain goals from being conceded.

He definitely needs to work hard on defending his set-pieces, but I think that's the only thing that really lets him down.

We've conceded quite a few goals from set-pieces which we need to address, but if we can get better at defending for those then our defence looks incredible IMO.

Totally with you on that one mate

He's been overall our best defender this season. When on form Sakho is better but it's taken him a while to settle.

Skrtel has been a rock. Yeah the shirt pulling is something I don't want go see, but my god the amount of people hitting the roof as much as they are because BT Sport have been highlighting it

I'd still keep Skrtel and Sakho as our first choice pairing. Personally I rate him higher than Agger who imo is over rated, but that's another point entirely.

if the shirt pulling/holding is a tactic that is so widely used but is ultimately illegal, and we are still **** at it then you have to wonder why we still persist with this stupid tactic.

when we see pics of lads all bibbed up training they are still holding and grabbing at each other. surely the trainers should get them to focus on winning the ball rather than trying to out-grapple the man.
not only are we consistently ****e at set pieces because of our obsession with strength over skills, its only a matter of time before we start to concede soft penalties because of this.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
