Skrtel is a partner person. If his partner is weak he'll panic. The other way round and he's a monster himself. Confidence and competition has perked him right up.

I think he's decent, but never top class. Agree that his form largely depends on who he's paired with. For such a brute of a player he's absolutely not a leader.

i have seen him drifting all over the place covering for team mates that are out of position or have failed to track their runner and he looks flappy as he knows he is compromising his own game. he must worry if the other cb will come across and cover. it shows the importance of eliminating as many weak links as possible.

As it stands he is the first choice CB so it seems unlikely he'll be sold in the next transfer window.

That said anything is possible.

Could be argued that his benching was a masterstroke by BR,,same goes for Agger

Could be. I think it's fair to say Rodgers appears to be a good man manager overall. Players love to play for him and he is getting the best out of most of the squad.

I’m not so sure. Baring the last game of the season 32 minutes of PL football from early January seems more than a man-management ploy to me. I know Carra came in and did well so there is no reason to change a winning side, but even in pre-season Wisdom was above Skrtel in the CB pecking order which suggested Rodgers really didn’t fancy him or there was something more to it.

But fair play to both of them, Skrtel kept at it with little fuss and earned his place back and Rodgers is now continually picking him over more high profile players and we are reaping the rewards. But IMO I honestly don’t think either of them could have seen this happening before the start of the season.

I don't think it was a man management ploy by Rodgers but it was a test of his man management skills. He dropped a player and many thought made him a scapegoat. By all appearances though he kept Skrtel's respect and also an open mind. Both of those things reflect well on his management skills in general and his man management ones in particular.

Favoring Wisdom could have been about seeing if he was ready to step up. I think the odd thing is the signing of three CBs if he thought there was any chance of Skrtel winning a place back.

My feeling is that Skrtel is excellent at a limit range of things. His positioning is good when he is on the right side and knows whether he should step up or hold off. He struggles when that isn't clear. One of the problems we have had as a team/squad is defending the area in front of the back four when fullbacks push up. That is something he deals badly with. This season we have been improving in that area though.
