Funny Wilson wasn't mentioned in our young CB's with potential... Wonder why he seemed so off the pace...

How is Wilson doing at Blackpool. I know he has only played 6 games. Has he been bad?

      Edit: http://www.thisisanfield.com/2012/02...-at-blackpool/

      Seems he has been alright

Reckon Sami would make a better coach than Carra tbh. He coped better in latter years & was always a more calm & considered player, which would translate well to coaching.
        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Agree with that. Can see Carragher being more of a Phil Thompson/Sammy Lee type. I.E. shouting a lot

Isn't Sami already a coach at Leverkusen? Would love to have him back here, one of my favorite players (if not my favorite) in the past decade.

Aye, he was one of mine too. Always said that when we lost him & Xabi, we didnt just lose 2 great players, we lost the calm leaders in the squad. The other leaders left - Stevie, Carra & Masher were the much more hot-headed types.

We can't afford passengers on £90k a week, that sort of money should be reserved for our top players, not for charitable hand outs to loyal veterans.
This is our weakness IMO, Ferguson is talking about an extension with a pay cut for Ferdinand, and he is younger and better than Carra. United also have had more young players coming through and they don't keep all their veterans around, only those who contribute. We can do better than Carra IMO, he is holding back the progress of Coates as well.

Then there is Gerrard, who is held in a high esteem, rightly so, but I get the feeling he gets to choose now where he plays, that is in the middle as a CM. Under Rafa he'd never player there, because it's not doing the team any good. At this stage I feel Gerrard is actually holding the team back!
                    * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

It's a difficult one - United/Fergusson have always culled from a position of strength, I'm not sure we could easily do better than Carragher but on the flip side I want to see us developing and pushing through young players. What pushes me towards thinking Carragher has to go is that we have an imbalance of personalities and styles in the squad IMO - we need calmer more technical ones to have a greater influence in my view.

Most of those points also apply to a lesser extent to Gerrard. However he is still good enough to find a place in a side much better than our current one and I think it would be madness to move him on or sideline him. We do however need to look at how to best use him.

I'd happily see Carragher leave the club TBH.

Past it as a player and I don't think he is what we need off the pitch.

I'd keep him as 4th choice, the main reason being we need to spend elsewhere first. That would also depend on how he feels, is he willing to play back up to Skrtel, Agger and Coates? Was there not something about him already staying? Signing another 1 year with a pay cut?

sadly sentimentally has no place in sport these days and he's been a great servant to LFC over the years but we should be freeing up space in the squad for someone younger.

Has sentiment ever had a real place? Even in 1989 we were described as a club more concerned with sucess than sentiment.
