I must admit until this season I always felt him to be a flawed defender, always had a mistake in him, every game. I didn't think he had the self belief to really develop into the player we see now and I didn't think he possessed the levels of consistency that he is producing now. So it is impressive to see that this season he has improved in almost every area of his game allied to that has added concentration, desire and good game awareness (he loved a rash tackle in the past but his decision making is excellent now) to his already formidable physique. He looks a really confident player now, something he did not before.

I'm impressed and hope that he keeps it up for many seasons to come.

Wow, just wow. I have to hold my hands up and say I thought he was a liability but he's totally turned it around now. He's absolutely bloody brilliant.

He's not just a great defender now he's also become a leader on the pitch. He berates any player that's slack and I ****ing love it. He sets the standard.

Played every minute of every league game last year. I think once Agger & Carra were fit he feared he'd be on the bench, so he's upped his game to keep his place in the side.

Shows what a bit if competition can do. Our defence has so much competition for places, is it any wonder it's the department that's been the best this season?

Skrtel really deserves it IMO because he's been our rock in defence this season and has shown 100% in every thing he had to improve on in his game, well done Martin
