The tackle itself was clean, but then Shelvey kicked out at Shelvey afterwards, possibly in self-defence as he may have thought Jonjo was about to step backwards on to him. But it was definitely a kick-out by Shelvey, and I suppose technically we could have seen him sent off for it. So in that respect, we may have been lucky.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostMust say that was never a foul on Shelvey, never a yellow, and the penalty decision was even worse. He didn't do anything. They came into contact but it's a contact sport. Bony's built like a heavyweight boxer - and yet he just crumbled to the ground when he felt Skrtel. Obviously we all know certain refs have been dying to give one of those against Skrtel but that was a ridiculous decision IMO.
Skrtel was poor on the day - not as poor as Agger but poor nevertheless - but the two goals I mentioned were bad decisions.

Disagree. Didn't look a kick out at all to me. Just a tangle of legs. Skrtel's legs were in the air - they had to come down.Originally posted by Scratch View PostThe tackle itself was clean, but then Shelvey kicked out at Shelvey afterwards, possibly in self-defence as he may have thought Jonjo was about to step backwards on to him. You appear to have somewhat of a Jonjo Shelvey fetish going on here Scratch. Imagine if he'd been sent off for that!
It would've been even more pathetic and laughable than Beckham's red card at the 98 World Cup.
Watched it tens of times and still don't see a "kick out". He's bringing his feet/legs back down from out of the air. They have to come down. Absolutely nothing in it in my view. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Penalty decision was Skrtel's reputation for wrestling coming home to roost really. it was bound to happen at some point.
Agree with everyone who says that the yellow card looked like nothing. In real time I barely noticed it. When shown in slow-mo it looked a bit odd but so do most tangles."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I certainly didn't see Shelvey screaming for a foul, I think he knew Skrtel had won the ball cleanly.

It was embarrassing, yet strangely amusingOriginally posted by tufty View PostMOTD last night showed a montage of our defensive errors this season, amazing how many miss kicks, own goals and general ****e play our back four have produced so far this season

.
It's incredible to think we're in with a shot of winning the league given how many absolute defensive blunders we've made this season!

yes, they as good as said if our defence was of the standard of the teams around us we'd piss the league, or was that my rose tinted ears ?Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostIt was embarrassing, yet strangely amusing

I can't remember that exactly but given our goals scored column I think it's fair to say if we had a better defense we'd be champions this year.Originally posted by tufty View Postyes, they as good as said if our defence was of the standard of the teams around us we'd piss the league, or was that my rose tinted ears ?
We have a title winning attack (1st in goals scored) and a mid-table defence (9th in goals conceded).
