Too expensive to remove him probably, FSG are fattening us up for resale, reducing wage bill and costs increasing revenues etc. Sacking a manager and his team is too expensive a choice right now.. All about selling us at a multiple of income....my guess around the 1.5 billion dollar mark..200% return on capital and another success for the hedge fund...which is what they are..

I am happy that we will stick with him. Obviously we all wanted a change after losing 3-1 to Palace and 6-1 to Stoke.....even typing it again makes me want to just delete this post.....BUT:
- Looking at the bigger picture, FSG have invested £116m on transfers last season. The majority of this was on young players who would get better. Well that was the idea anyway. If you think of it on the bigger picture, you don't just abandon £116m worth of players and start again. It is approx 1/6th of the value of the football club so it would have taken huge balls and certainty that Brendan couldn't turn it around to sack him and effectively write off over £100m. Any new manager would want that cash again to bring his own team.
- Brendan would have had to be honest in the meeting with them. He would have told FSG that Ibe, Markovic, Moreno and Emre Can can go on and be very good players for Liverpool over the next 8 years or so. And that isn't taking the likes of Coutinho, Sturridge, Sakho and Origi into account - all of whom are very young and have improvement in them.
- If Brendan says that they are worth persuing with, then it would be very difficult (and rightly so) for FSG to not let him see if he can get a song out of them.
- Looking at the season as a whole, there is no doubt that Sturridges injury ****ed us up. It just did. Even if he remained fit and had a poor season by his standards, then you would still expect another 12 to 15 goals in the bank. That might well have been enough to get us top 4 - at which point we would all be saying that Brendan must do better but that we could still compete. If Brendan also said that Lallana could be a good player for us if he got his fitness sorted out, then again it would be hard for FSG to just write that £25m off.
- For me, if you look at the players we signed last summer, there were a lot of young players from abroad who would take time to settle in Liverpool and England. Hopefully they have had their 12 months acclimatization period and can now add value on the pitch.
- Regarding the rumoured signings of Milner, Clyne and Ings, for me they all might not be a bad shout. Why? Because i think Milner is a winner and has a great engine. For anyone that says he doesn't deserve the 150k per week, then they are probably right. That money is obscene. However, he turned down more to stay at City and he also could have earned as much at Arsenal. However, he wants to play center midfield every week for LFC. There is something refreshing about that - he has turned down more money elsewhere and wants to move to us for sporting reasons. Compare that to the likes of Ratboy Sterling......
- Regarding Ings. His signing is a no brainer. Replace Borini with him. He has proved he can score goals in the PL and even if he flopped, then we would get a profit on him. I can't see how this transfer can be criticized. I would love us to sign Lacazette and Vietto just as much as everyone else but i'd also bring Ings in as well for the rumoured compo of 4m. It is just a no brainer.
- Regarding Clyne, then he is a good player, gets up and down the pitch like Johnson did 6 years ago - and again is a hungry player to improve.
If Brendan went into the meeting with the following points:
1. A fit Sturridge is a differentiator
2. A fit Lallana can make a difference
3. Markovic, Emre Can, Moreno and Ibe can become very very good players.
then when you also consider that:
4. we have Origi to come in as well.
5. we aren't in the champions league next year so the players should be able to integrate further and reach a better level with one league game a week
6. we have a lot of young players and we have already seen that Brendan is effective at getting them integrated into the first team.
Then those 6 points suggest that he should not be given up on just yet.
The signings of 3 or 4 first team players that can improve the match day squad without spending a lot of money also makes sense as it allows FSG to keep their powder dry to an extent. Let them see if Brendan can redeem himself and if he doesnt and gets the bullet by xmas, then it gives any new manager some time to assess the squad before next summer.
Personally i would also like to see us sign Konoplyanka on a free and if Vietto could be attracted as well then he would be a no-brainer because of his release clause. Same with Chicarito if he could be convinced to join LFC. I would like to see us sell Sterling to the highest bidder and that could actually pay for Ings, Milner, Clyne, Konoplyanka and Vietto / Hernandez. The squad would be better, we'd have a negativity spreading prick out of the squad, and FSG would be able to keep money in the kitty for a next manager if Brendan ****s up in the first 5 months of next season.
To the people saying that FSG are bad owners and are not ambitious - i don't really buy that to be honest. They have put their money in. If they were looking to maximise the value of the club, then they would insist on us signing a Japanese player, a Korean player and a Mexican player to maximise revenue streams. If they were looking to sell the club soon, then this would be the kind of **** they would be looking to do. Anfield would also be called the Standard Chartered Stadium by now.

We aren't in the CL, but we are in the EL.

When we were sold for circa £220 mil in 2010, there were only two parties in the frame: FSG; and Peter Lim. Where were the people with $1.5 bil to spend back then?

i am hoping that the EL will be a tool used by LFC to blood more of our young players and as a shop window for the likes of Borini who no doubt just will not go away.Originally posted by Paddy View PostWe aren't in the CL, but we are in the EL.
On the whole "lets stick with Brendan" attitude that i have - don't get me wrong, he is far from convincing. I cannot get my head around the potential signing of Benteke - who in my view is essentially a younger, slightly faster and better version of Rickie Lambert - but not exactly the Suarez-esq workaholic fighter that we need in the forward position. I cannot get my head around that rumoured signing.
Also, if Brendan said "we need to replace all the players we got last summer because they are all ****e" then it would have been a no brainer to give him the bullet.
Also, i would ask that he gets an experienced coach / assistant with big club experience in to help him out. Pascoe seems like a clown and has the aura of a guy that is just happy to have a jumper with a Liver-bird on it. Getting in an experienced guy with big player and big club experience would provide Brendan with a sounding board and also might nip **** heads like Sterling in the bud as well. Look at Man City with Brian Kidd - he isn't Pellegrinis own man but i have no doubt he has proved valuable for him - and also got the importance of the club. Maybe Phil Thompson would be a good shout for this as he is a liverpool man through and through....

When I had all my trouble with the club a journalist told me "You'd be amazed at how 'back of a fag packet' it all is at LFC" and I think he's not far wrong. You expect these seriously sophisticated, high level talks...and the reality I think is quite different. I mean, they only had a two hour meeting. You'd think it'd take practically all day to properly discuss everything that needed discussing.
Ah well it's done now, we'd better get behind him. I fear for him though - he's under an unnatural amount of pressure and the first sign that it's not going well next season and it will be toxic. Mid-season changes aren't ideal either.

Who, apart from you, expects "seriously sophisticated, high level" talks? It's not the ****ing UN. What constitutes "seriously sophisticated" when chewing the fat over how the season panned out?

It'd be barca, but aye- I take your point.
