Well I would proportion some blame at the door of FSG yeah. Not least because they've kept him in the job. As for players displaying leadership. Rafa's main buys that brought success would have all fit the FSG model. As well as many lesser lights.Originally posted by peekay View PostBrendan deserves a lot of blame for that. But do you think a tiny bit of the blame can also be apportioned to FSG. In the whatever complex statistical model they use to buy players, it seems they dont consider the variables corresponding to leadership and captaincy material. Milner appears to be the first buy in a long time with that characteristic.
In his initial years, Rafa's main buys oozed leadership and players who can stand up and be counted in a battle. In a big physical game, I would trust Luis "powderpuff (according to many at that time)" Garcia to stand up and be counted over 90% of the wimps we have bought in the last few years.
Not absolving Brendan of the blame but I think FSG's overfocus on latent value and talent has not helped as well.
Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Torres, Kuyt, Momo, Arbeloa, Crouch, Agger, Skrtel, Riera, Dossesna, Aquilani, Johnson, Keane, Garcia, Josemi, plus all those youngsters he signed.
In fact, I can't right now think of many over 30 he signed. Pellegrini.Forwards.......

I clung on longer than I probably should have done, and without a viable alternative I'm still not 100000% in the GET HIM OUT RIGHT NOW camp, but I'm fairly close

Yeah but Rafa was a bad, bad human being who knew nothing about football, had no affection for the club, rode the Houllier train to CL glory & drive Alonso out to greater wages in his home country where he could play for the biggest team in the world (TM).Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostWell I would proportion some blame at the door of FSG yeah. Agree that FSG won't sack him yet but I can't see how things could get any worse. Losing 3 nil at home to West Ham was 100% the last straw for me. Diabolical result.

i am inclined to say, if we don't get both positive results by Sunday night - a win at least v Norwich, he is a goner... if he ain't, FSG are nuts or he is on some kinda of loyalty payout bonus kinda scheme with em...(ie. get fired - you get a massive payout)... which is kinda crazy in itself...

They are two big games but this sort of analysis of a) he goes or b) there is a giant conspiracy seems a bit naive. There is no sense in sacking someone you believe in because of a short term failure. FSG can just judge things differently to you.Originally posted by Myo View Posti am inclined to say, if we don't get both positive results by Sunday night - a win at least v Norwich, he is a goner... if he ain't, FSG are nuts or he is on some kinda of loyalty payout bonus kinda scheme with em...(ie. get fired - you get a massive payout)... which is kinda crazy in itself...
It is getting to the point where FSG should be looking at alternatives though."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Having had a little more time to think about things having calmed down a bit. I don't think he will go anytime soon, as I have said before if we wanted to get rid of him we should have done it in the summer. Having backed him in the summer, let him bring his own players in, changed the coaching staff etc, I think the owners have to let him try and get things turned around and let the changes have time to take effect. Bringing in someone new and them having to work almost a year before they can really make any mark on the squad probably isn't going to help anyone. I think that we probably get into the teratory of writing this season off if that happens. If Rodgers can get the team playing how he planned that would be preferable - That said I don't see Rodgers as the long term answer.
The first 3 games were ok, the last couple have been bad, but as well as being without Sturridge for all that time the last couple of games we have also been without Henderson, and the Man Utd game Coutinho, I think you could make the case for those 3 being our best 3 players still at the club from recent years, and their absence is significant. Sturridge we know all about, Henderson's impact is IMO still somewhat underrated, aside from his ability as a player we are clearly lacking leadership and Henderson is probably the only leader we have in the side. I have mentioned this in other threads but Lucas, Milner and Can have very little experience over the last year or so in playing centre mid (Lucas due to injury, Can playing CB last year and Milner in his bit part / wide roles at City) so it is no wonder the midfield looks a little rusty. Hopefully Henderson will be back soon and we can turn things around. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I don't think FSG would contemplate sacking him so early into the season, especially given the small time the new signings have had together
But they cannot possibly be refusing to discuss any other options, just not feasible
I wonder how aware the club is concerning the level of support Rodgers has (n't) got?I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Support from whom? My guess is that they will have someone taking the temperature of fan opinion but unless it becomes really toxic then I hope and expect they will take little notice. You would hope they always monitor how the management and players are interacting.Originally posted by Fierce View Post

I really believe that the toxic atmosphere is just around the corner, I'm not hoping for it Chris before you get here, but I think it's really close. We are just so far from being cohesive and useful.Originally posted by dww View PostSupport from whom?
