There is a clear xenophobia / misguided sense of patriotic loyalty in the football media in this country, it's crystal clear. Not on this forum, not among the fans (mostly)...but the media. There's not an ounce of pressure on Rodgers from the press. It's all coming from the fans - and rightly so. I didn't want to bring this up cos, of course, my foreign example is Benitez. Rodgers has spent and squandered a **** load more money than Benitez did, and his results are worse. Everything is worse. Yet Benitez got absolutely slaughtered from all quarters in the media. I don't need to go on about it (but remember Keys, Gray, Redknapp, Ronnie Whelan, Houghton etc - all of them FFS).....we all know what it was like. He got ****ing ruined. Those same people are preaching "give him time" about Rodgers. It's senseless, illogical and I can only conclude they're all xenophobes.

If the manager is willing to do the TalkSport interviews, do the equivalent of the winding down of the window to Sky reporters and no doubt drip feed them stories to bolster their own positions, then the press aren't likely to bite the hand that feeds.

Benitez couldn't be ****ed with them and they hated him for it. I preferred his model.
Agree with this. I don't doubt most of the hacks dislike foreigners but over and above that they're all lazy stupid journos who don't have an ounce of intellectual curiosity in their bones.

Any manager who makes their job easier, as they sweat off a hangover, is mannah from heaven. If they're English, then all the better as maybe their TV colleagues can share some bantz with them.

The press hated Rafa and (because) they loved Fergie. I'm not sure there's much more to it than that.

You say lazy stupid journos but I think they play to their audience and pitch to the people who will listen to them.

Post second world war on 10 occasions we have had 8 points or less after 6 league games. Houllier is on the list once, souness once. Brendan Rodgers is on that list three times.

So out of our 10 worst starts in the league after 6 games, Rodgers has been in charge of 3 of them.

Again, I haven't checked to see if its true, but if it is that's **** by anyone's standards.

This isnt the kind of history I want LFC managers creating

Aye, maybe more lazy than stupid. Not sure many football journos have an unslakeable thirst for truth

Did Moyesy get loads of backing in the press too when he was making a balls of the United job? I genuinely can't remember cos I was too busy laughing.

They do, lots of them seem to infect. However most of the time when they are perceived to be Bias they are dismissed as lazy.

Lots are great, you just need to know where to look.

Ian Macintosh, Swiss Ramble, Ian Herbert, Rafa Honigstein, Jacob Steinberg, Tim Vickery, Grant Whal, Johnothan Wilson. All off the top of my head who don't really care for what the manager has to say.
Depends what you are looking for I guess.

Fair enough. Not all football journos are lazy and sensationalist (but I maintain more are than aren't)

Not sure about your bias and laziness point.

                        Dunno, I was too.

The press hated Rafa because Fergie hated (and feared) him, and they feared Fergie.

I see Gary Mac's giving interviews now. How many pre match interviews did Pascoe or Marsh give whilst they were coaches?

Maybe the PR machine, sensing the mood of the fans, has told Brendan to stay away from the microphones…

I think he's given one interview to the Liverpool Echo. An interview probably scheduled well in advance to see how he was taking to his new role but due to our current situation, the questions (and the resulting answers) revolved around our performances, etc.

There was an article in The Times this weekend (Oliver Kay) that suggested there was a noticeable difference to Rodgers and his media duties.

Personally, I'm not convinced, but if anybody is going to pick up on it, it would be journalists who speak to him on a regular basis.

To be honest I don't watch pre or post match press conferences, IIRC Pascoe has done a few for league cup
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
