I presume you mean whilst he was at JuneOriginally posted by peekay View PostAncelotti is the only example I can think off and that is in the 90s.
He won the Intertoto in his first season then in the 2nd he finished runner-up in the Serie A, and he was sacked by Juventus. Ancelotti's dismissal was announced by Juventus at halftime in the final league game of the season, even though they were still in with a chance of winning the title.Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Rafa won the league in his first season at Valencia. Mourinho won the UEFA cup in his first full season.Originally posted by Lecter View PostArsene Wenger won the double in his 2nd season in charge he was only a few years older than Rodgers is now
Dalglish won the double in his first season in charge he was younger than Rodgers at the time
Outside of England, didn't Rafa win the league in his 2nd season at Valencia? Simeone finished 3rd and won the Europa in his 2nd season
I am sure there's plenty of others
Ferguson at Aberdeen, Guardiola at Barcelona. Klopp won the German cup in his first season at Dortmund.
It is difficult to generalize as a number of factors affect the situation, the quality of the squad, the presence of a super talent etc., but I think most great managers show the promise by over achieving in the initial years or at their first great club job.
Most importantly all of them have a clearly defined vision or style of play which they dont deviate significantly.
Even when they have received criticism - Rafa, Mourinho, Guardiola, Klopp, Ancelotti - have never deviated significantly from their core beliefs. They are able to sell to their players a specific way of playing football and when everyone in the squad plays that way, the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts.Last edited by peekay; 23-09-15, 03:44 PM.

I think Rodgers, Pardew and Burley would argue that LMA Manager of they year is not nothing...Originally posted by Danish_Pastry View PostRodgers didn't win anything at Swansea and Reading - didn't win (it was Gerrard-Sturridge-Suarez) in 13-14 - and hasn't won anything until now (and never will!!!)

Hodgson is a genuine Knight, First Class of the Order of the Lion of FinlandOriginally posted by Leyton388 View PostI can't believe people are forgetting Rodgers converted Championship playoff final win for Swansea. Also Hodgson won the finder's crispy pancake league in Scandinavia once.
Winners.
Sadly as it stands the aforementioned managers could only dream of having a cv like Hodgsons when they retire
