also going back to kids not understanding tactics.

what a ****ing load of bollocks. have any of you ever seen man city's under 11's or uniteds play. I have and players are raised to understand from a very early age about tactics and their roles within the team.

What the patterns of play are etc... they all know what they are supposed to be doing.

coaching kids is probably the best thing i ever did and we do take it seriously without either taking it out on the kids or ever making it not fun for them. I spend hours each week planning sessions etc... and reading whatever i can find on tactics from whoever so all rodgers stuff is pretty interesting when you compare it to rafa's 4231, hodgsons 442 and kennys whatever. Ive never seen the second DM role ie joe allens so clearly defined as rodgers has.

its a bit of fun but but it did highlight very obviously what lecter said. If you dont win the 50-50's and second balls in midfield you will leave yourself exposed. The key for me is whether the manager can find the balance between what he wants - the patient grind teams down approach and what the gung-ho players like gerrard and luis suarez want.

Until those two accept that they dont need to rush forward at 100mph every time we get the ball and as gerrard did lose it 32 times in a match, we will still look like a team who are constantly getting caught out because we're always in transition from defence to attack without completing it.

My personal opinion is that rafas 4231 beats rodgers 433 every day of the week. But as rodgers himself said he sometimes goes with 2.
I would agree, but does it beat Barca's 4-3-3?

My point is, is it really the formation or the personnel we have right now?

you cannot compare barcelona (of pep's era) to any modern day team. They've got a clutch of technical genuises playing in that midfield that even they wont see again for another ten or 15 years.

Xavi, iniesta are so unique that they are once in a generation players and barca had them both ! I dont think any team could have come close to peps barca especially during their first two seasons. Even at our very best under rafa im not sure that we could have handled barca at their best. Very much doubt it

If you look at mourinho he plays the 4231 against barca and they've had some success with it over the last 18 months or so and yet he was a staunch 433 man at chelsea.

Rafa in his book constantly highlights attacking fullbacks as a weakness which can be exploited. Im not convinced by the 433 because one ball played over the top will start the alarm bells and which premiership team doesnt have at least a couple of speed merchants.

El Mat - Est's very own Special One.

Do you hand the under XI's little tactical notes on tiny bits of paper like Mourinho used to? And dress like a Next catalogue model (stuble, suit, over coat and woooly scarf) on match day, chewing gum and gesticulating?

              If not, you totally should

                3 P's pal...

3 P's of football - passing, possession and pressing.

nicked right out of the rodgers coaching manual for amateur coaches.

The Question: Should a manager use tactics unsuitable for his players?

What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

                  Batman

                  F*** off!!!

Did you get the three envelopes out at the start of the season too?

'Lads, gather round. I've written the name of three of youse in these envelopes - the three that I think will let us down this season.

You can only trust three things in life lads.

That would be ****ing EPIC to shout something like that at an under XI's footy match (only if wearing obligatory Mourinho kit).
