Sorry I should have chosen a different phrase , the main point was he hung the young players out to dry by publicly criticizing them.
He would of been better off not praising anyone and saying the team was at fault."All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"

I believe the comment on Borini and Allen wasn't part of the rant but when he was asked a question as to whether his signings are weak physicallyOriginally posted by souliv View PostSorry I should have chosen a different phrase , the main point was he hung the young players out to dry by publicly criticizing them.

He has given out plenty of praise to players since he's been here. They have to take the rough with the smooth.

Introducing the idea of context and making reference to the actual questions posed. Are you mad?!Originally posted by Sarb View PostI believe the comment on Borini and Allen wasn't part of the rant but when he was asked a question as to whether his signings are weak physically

at the end of the day, i don't have a problem with him doing it in this particular circumstance and think all this fuss is people with too much time on their hands.
he slated a sh1t performance. anyone doesn't like that, they can leave. young, old, established, new, if any of the squad are doing anything other than working their arses off to make sure that kind of performance doesnt happen again they can leave.
if he makes a habit of slagging them in public for lesser offences then i think he's going too far. but for this, the players need a public flogging not just a few words. they deserve to be slated.

I don't know if its just me but when I read through many of these posts I think about the children. Who else is going to think about the children?

1. He wasn't praising Borini. He said he needs to show that at LFC. Hardly praise.
2. On the Allen comments. I agree, it is about the mentality of a player. Countless small players with an aggressive trait have been beasts. Don't have to be seven feet tall.
3. He publicly criticised a group of players, didn't single anyone out. And he could have done.Forwards.......

Finally, someone who actually read and understood what he said.

Allen doesn't have to be seven foot tall as long as someone else in the team is.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View Post1. He wasn't praising Borini. He said he needs to show that at LFC. Hardly praise.

in the modern game height, pace, strength, aggression are all taboo words but football needs a mix of all of those physical traits, with the tactical and technical ones.
every team has to be built with the league characteristics in mind. In Spain, you could get away with having a team that's average height is 5 10" but in our league You would leak goals from set pieces or be vulnerable to halls into the box.
the epl requires those physical strengths in key areas such as central defence or central midfield. You don't need your fullbacks or wingers to be six foot four but they still need to be quick, aggressive into tackles.
People questioning the need for height, strength etc... Just look at de gea from united. He's built like a matchstick but was brilliant in la liga. Over here he's been found out big time.
in the epl physical abilities are important.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Disagree about 'size' and physicality in the PL.
I look at players like Ramires at Chelsea. Skinny but a fantastic athlete, and thats what you need to be at the top level in the PL, an athlete. Just like our own Stevie was an immense athlete at his peak.
We don't need a physical presence in midfield IMO, we need our CMs to be more athletic and fluid in posession, perfect example was Gerrard on Sunday fro 30 mins. Infact we need to be more fluid all over the pitch, just too much stop start footy."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

It's about the mentality. It's about wanting it. About being ready and up for it, etc.
In the '88 cup final, Steve McMahon got done early on and he was quiet as a mouse. Wasn't up for the battle. And he was as hard a player as there was in that era.
The point Rodgers was making, was that at Liverpool he expects players to come in every day and fight for their life's, just as he is willing to do. If they don't battle, they're out the door, young or old. Against Oldham players let him down, and he's made his point.
On the subject of size of players, clearly we couldn't have a team of midgets. But we haven't. Even Barca have players like Busquetts and Piqué in their side. They also have small players like Xavi & Iniesta. It's about balance.Forwards.......
