Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers brings Great Britain Olympic cycling psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters to Anfield.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has recruited the country’s leading sports psychiatrist, Dr Steve Peters, to strengthen his Anfield backroom team.

Peters, credited with inspiring the all-conquering Great Britain Olympic cycling team, has been working at Anfield for the past two months, offering private surgeries to senior players and coaching staff.

Rodgers says there is no compulsion for anyone to see Peters, but his introduction has been warmly received. He has been spending one day a week at the Melwood training ground, discussing the demands of being a top level sportsman on a one-to-one basis.

Last season, Peters added former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy to a high profile list of sports clients.

He is best known for working with the likes of Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.

“We have brought in a guy who is the top man in his field, one of the leaders in the world at what he does and it is a real coup for us to get someone like that in,” said Rodgers.

Would be lovely if tomorrow, Brendan picked the right team from the start and didn't have to make reactionary substitutions to reorganise either at half time or through the first half.

Don't get me wrong, its good that he will react and respond to when it clearly isn't working, but I'd prefer it if he got it right from the start. Especially against his old team.

Its nonsense anyway because putting Henderson at right back made us worse in that position and I don't believe it would have been planned at all. If Brendan wanted to change the midfield he would have changed the midfield, not take off our RB and move a midfielder there to make space for a midfield sub.

If rodgers can get us near the top four come january then its a massive incentive for fsg to cough up some more money. Outside the top 2/3 everyone else is pretty crap.

Top four is on imo and getting it would just be huge for us.

A win today will leave us 6 points from Chelsea and 8 from West Brom who are surely going to slide down at some point.

If we can get it back to 3 or 4 points from the top 4 come the end of Jan we are most certainly in with a good shout with a couple more good signings.

West Brom don't concern me. As long as we can stay within touching distance of Arsenal, Spurs & everton, then we have every chance of finishing 4th. All of the teams competing for 4th are so inconsistent this year.

yup thats my thinking as well, we need to be around the teams you mention come the turn of the year and hopefully with some squad improvement we can kick on and make a real go for 4th.

It will be very difficult and in all honesty this season might be a little too soon to see us do so but we can hope!

I have my doubts of us even being in a Europa League spot at the end of the season. Maybe that is a negative outlook but there is so many other good teams around us now. I don't expect much.
