He shouldn't be so critical of our own players in public , by all means bollock them all day long in private, but these types of headline aren't going to do us any good at all

He's right though, but that's hardly the point

Not sure why he always needs to tell the press his "innermost" thoughts

If he's similarly public with his praise when we **** arsenal then I'm sure all will be forgiven.

These are players who, even at 18 years old, are paid at least as much in a week as most of the watching fans get in a year. If he'd sat in front of the press and tried to make out that we'd played well and were hard done by, we'd have been crucified in the media.

We have to accept that the majority of ours and any other PL club's business is played out in the full glare of publicity. The press can turn on a manager or a club at the drop of a hat - witness the appalling treatment of AVB earlier this season, because he, Johnny Foreigner, replaced English media whore and melty faced barrowboy Redknapp. They've been noticeably quieter since he's led Spurs into the top 4 and Redknapp hasn't proven to be the second coming at QPR. Anyway, the fact is that you're damned if you do speak honestly, and damned if you don't, and if certain of our players can't put in a decent performance against a really poor League 1 side, then I think he has every right to criticise them in public.

i think rodgers is pretty strong in communication and pr in general. some say he talks too much but i don't think so. he's not simply babbling away like roy. he gives me the impression that he clearly thinks about what he says and when and the way he arguments his points.
i've got no problem whatsoever with what he's said after the game about the young players, about gerrard as a role model, about getting their act together when they want to make it at this club. about being mentally prepared and up for every game. i think he's spot on and he's right to say that in public. he's not bashing them in any way but he's getting a strong message across of what's expected of a liverpool player and what he as a manager demands.

I can't make my mind up over this; part of me wants to believe Rodgers knows how to get the best out of his players and therefore, the ones who respond to a bollocking are the ones listed in the media. The other side of me thinks that he's just exerting his authority and is losing sight of being 'media friendly' and talking too much.

Meh, it's out there now - let's see how the team responds tomorrow.

So long as he adds a little self criticism in there as well i have no problem with him having a go at players.

I just think it's a bit lame to place the blame totally at the door of the younger players, because on the day, i think most every one got something... or did something wrong.

The guy is coming back from injury and has played a handful of games for us. Still young. Why don't you give him a chance?

And what did you think to Kenny's comments on Downing last season "A lot better than he thought"?
The problem is hes inventing strengths to justify them

Borini's strength isnt aggression or power, poll the people in here and the most you'd have got is the "good movement" comment

As for his comments about Allen they are ****ing laughable in the extreme

I thought Kenny was mental to say that about Downing

I understand people criticising Rodgers for referencing certain players, but does anyone have a transcript of the interview and know how these questions were framed? Of course he could’ve said he doesn’t want to talk about individual players (like he did by saying ‘I’m not just talking about Skrtel) but without this context, any criticisms need to be qualified.

And why should BR take all the blame and not criticise the performance? That would abdicate the team of responsibility when, actually, they need a kick up the arse.

Rodgers may talk too much, he may get things wrong tactically but, overall, I’ve been most impressed by his man management skills (with Henderson, Downing etc) so I’m willing to go with him on this one.

I would poll the people in here but I doubt many have seen much of him besides what he's played for us, although many would probably say they watched him since he was at Chelsea just to add more weight to the point they are making.

I don't think his comments on Allen are laughable to the extreme. I think he is backing a player he has signed. If he didn't he'd be opening himself up to all sorts of criticism. All managers will back players they spent huge sums on. It's not unique to Rodgers

The defensive unit were a shambles on Sunday. Not much to do with how we were set up. One fumble by Jones, the other two even failing to jump for a header. The lack of effort was poor and he was right to criticise in public. I might be wrong but he didn't name any names when giving out his slating.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

What next? On-pitch bollockings at half-time perhaps?

i am sure when Rodgers came to Liverpool his Modus OIperandi was never to blame the players, he puts the team out and asks them to play his way and if they make a mistake it's down to him.

IF he is now resorting to the blame game, Worried that the stress is getting to him some waht maybe? Or they are just not listening ti him
