Anyone concerned with what this will do for team morale can't be good , if he is asked a question does not mean he has to answer it

That is fine but why do it in public no need for it
I presume he thinks he'll get more of a reaction having given a stronger message by doing it in public. Whether he's right or not will remain to be seen.

It's true that we lack physical presence in terms of personnel, but I also agree with Rodgers that mentality is a problem - it's about having tenacity and controlled aggression. Alonso for instance was hardly a 'unit' but he gave no quarter. Perhaps having a naturally physical player come in would help that of itself, but he's right that the individuals we have need to do better in this respect.

As for the public ****canning, not a fan. I think he's probably genuinely pissed off and has ended up saying more than he'll have wanted to. Which is only going to cause more problems, but there we go. Many a bump in the road.

His comments on Borini and Allen are laughable.

Totally unnecessary to go all out in the media.

I'm somewhat confused by Rodgers comments, firstly I'm not overly keen on manager critisising individual players in the press, I don't have a problem with him saying the whole team was ****, but any critisism of individual players should be done behind closed doors. The other issue for me is the comment that only Allen and Henderson come out with any credit, I thought Henderson was ok, but I thought Allen was very poor, and has been alot recently.

I also think Rodgers has to take some of the blame for the performance as he picked the wrong team for this game, playing a very inexperienced and 'lightweight' team for a physical game like this was somewhat naive IMO
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Realistically though, if asked about Sunday's performance what are his choices of a response? No comment, it was great, it was poor or what?

It was a disgraceful performance and the attitude and effort of majority of players was ridiculous. It's not the first time Skrtel has had such a poor game. Oldham had won 1 in 8. I think Smith has only scored 2 goals all season, but doubled that against 2 international PL defenders.

Personally I just think he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. The Liverpool Way died a long time ago, not just with the appointment of Rodgers. He's pretty much said what all of us were saying and even supporters who don't rate him. That team should have won that game comfortably. They didn't. The attitude has been found wanting in quite a few games this season

We need more experience and more brute strength in the team. Don't know wtf Rodgers is on about Allen manhandling toure ffs. out of 100 challenges you'd expect Allen to beat toure twice.

The rest of the time he'd be toures bitch.
Matt Smith is only 23. What's the cut off age where boys become men?

The Borini and Allen comments are hilarious, talk about trying to justify yourself

What is he trying to justify on Borini? He said what his strength is and that he needs to improve on it. I've not seen enough of him early in his career or at Swansea to say either way. Have you?

The guy is coming back from injury and has played a handful of games for us. Still young. Why don't you give him a chance?

And what did you think to Kenny's comments on Downing last season "A lot better than he thought"?

"For me the pressure starts higher up the pitch. It was too easy for the ball to be played forward. Can we stop the ball coming forwards? It was similar to the first goal at Stoke, when it was played out to Huth. We're looking for pressure at the top end of the pitch."

For me he is right on that. There is no pressure on the ball when we play and no attempt to stop the opposition. He needs to find a solution but at least he sees the issue

I get what he's trying to do here and it might work but I really don't like the use of the press to get points across, I mean us using the press hasn't exactly been a roaring success over the past few years has it.

Making sure players aren't comfortable that the position they hold is safe is good thing but let's do it in private

Sometimes it's easier to get a reaction from a player who is underperforming to criticise in public. But it's also something which could easily backfire. I'd be pissed off if first things in the morning I read something like that without the manager having had a chat about it before.

Not quite sure how Allen gets away without criticism? Too close to home maybe?

Could be he thinks some players needs to get told publicy to respond, but with others it`s better to do it face to face.

Being public with such things certainly adds weight to any message he's trying to get across to the players and I guess he feels like it needs that extra weight. He's not singled anyone out like Roy did with Agger and Johnson really. The only person he really picks out as **** is their striker.
