i wasnt thinking that we would benefit from a few old stragglers, more the michu or sissoko 3m bargains.Originally posted by Alex View Post£3m journymen players are not what we need. We are not West Ham. I'd much rather we go the way we are now, adding quality to the side when we can (Sturridge and Coutinho recently) and building like that.
The things that you are suggesting will make us finish 6th maybe, but we won't get higher with that philisophy IMO.
We are growing slowly, and that can only mean we are going to be stronger for it.
i would still want us to be adding the odd better player when they became available, but i wouldnt want us to be spending 10m+ on 'lads with potential' we've seen plenty of these not work out
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Whilst I've been pissing around with our transfer spends, I have come across our transfer expenditure under Rodgers: £59,488,000. Now granted, this is not an *exact* science and is most certainly up for debate, but the market value of the players we have brought in is actually £65,736,000.
So Rodgers - and FSG - are true to their word about getting value for money, having a price for a player and not exceeding that and negotiating (go Ayre!) the best price for us.
On the flip side, we have let £63,976,000 worth of talent leave this club for:
£9,196,000

Or to put it another way, we paid £63,976,000 for £9,196,000 of talent. You sometimes have to wonder if some the people doing our deals are friends of 'Arry and Fat Sam.Originally posted by Muddled View PostWhilst I've been pissing around with our transfer spends, I have come across our transfer expenditure under Rodgers: £59,488,000. I don't think Rogers has the foggiest when it comes to tactics, particularly defensive tactics.
We will end up like Keegan's Newcastle is we are not careful.
He needs to get our defence sorted first and foremost. Mostly the same players Rafa had, why can they all of a sudden not defend to save their lives?

maybe comes from having the full backs pressing forward so much. we get caught short handed with a sudden break. when finnan and riise pushed up we usually had two deeper midfielers to intercept through balls and help stifle attacks.Originally posted by Havors View PostI don't think Rogers has the foggiest when it comes to tactics, particularly defensive tactics.

I think that to date he has been pretty honest in his assessment of the defensive performances on those occasions that it's gone bdaly wrong. I don't recall him making 'excuses'. But feel free to provide some evidence to the contrary.Originally posted by baitman View Postmaybe comes from having the full backs pressing forward so much. we get caught short handed with a sudden break. when finnan and riise pushed up we usually had two deeper midfielers to intercept through balls and help stifle attacks.

I tend to think that a couple of our players are particularly poor at it in general. I'd single out Sktel and Johnson (who I otherwise think is excellent). Do we man to man mark? It looks to me like people have runners behind them too often - so either bat starting positions for zones or are **** at following people.Originally posted by ronanm View PostDefending set pieces would be a start - shambolic this season in particular."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

When someone has a lot to say you have to wonder if some of it just goes in one ear and straight out of the other. Some of us struggle sometimes to take him seriously, the players are with him every day and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them tune him out sometimes.Originally posted by Havors View PostI don't think Rogers has the foggiest when it comes to tactics, particularly defensive tactics.
