Maybe Gibbo but with united for example they seem to get more out of the average ones more then we do.

I chuckled when they spunked 18.5 million on Carrick, been excellent for them though, especially recently. Smalling, Jones all decent players but they get more out of them then maybe we would.

It would be interesting to see the "big 4" transfers over the same period, but ours has been for the most part, ****e imo.

To be fair though, with teams who have won the league since we did, it doesn't really matter who they bought over that time period, they all got more out of them collectively in the league then we did.

We bought some good players but never enough over a sustained period. We got close twice but followed it up with two brain fart summers after we finished second under Ged and Rafa, probably forced on Rafa though given the circumstances.

We've been spectacularly bad at buying players for many a long year.
          They have Liverpool Apps now?

I think it is just a case that they have better players around them.

Quick research but since the premier league began we've spent £528m on players.

United have spent £531m.heres their list. http://www.transferleague.co.uk/prem...transfers.html

Plenty of ****e in there too. Maybe it's just the case that they have been managed much better then we have, while also having a superb crop of youngsters come through at one point.

EDIT: Although that website says we've spent £601m

Think it's because they have had the same manager for 26 years. Stability. We've been guilty of short termism which meant less continuity.
                Are we winning?

Thats great, but we need a hit or miss, one by one analysis of all the signings made by all of the teams that have been in the top 4 since the start of the Premier League. Only then will we definitively be able to say that World cup winner Bernard Diomede was a waste of money.

Yeah but also they wouldn't have had the same manager for 26 years if he hadn't been doing things right.

From 91 on he's had them in the mix every season building numerous teams in the process. he'd have been sacked if they weren't up there.

Maybe it's that simple, none of our managers since 90 have been good enough to turn our squad into something more than its individual parts.

We've all said it, their defence is ****, their midfield is gash, they are still there every year though, the cunts.

I still think we've signed way more dross for big money and when you are trying to catch up you have to be better than your rivals in the market, and we haven't been and still aren't. It's shows no sign of changing either.

We all know the stories though - things have happened at Liverpool that have lead to the need for change.

If Rafa had been allowed to build etc etc...

Ferguson did **** all for 7/8 years bar winning a few cups. All his good work probably came that time.

To be fair though it's not just the individual player, more what the transfers of a particular summer have or have not added to the squad as a whole.

I haven't seen many summers you could regard as unqualified success in the last 21 years

It's all about building and those things take time. Rodgers has had a decent season.

I think Rodgers has just about bought himself another season, but would anyone be outraged if he was replaced in the summer? Stability is important, but what if there was a better alternative available? I certainly don't think Rodgers has impressed sufficiently that he can be confident he'll still be Liverpool manager in August.

Another season is a must. Anything else and it's just back to square one.
