He should never have been put in the position to feel like he had a decision to make.

Just give him a contract and let him transition to coaching if thats what he wants. He could be invaluable in telling younger and less experienced players about the pressures.

He wont play much, but even as a sub on the bench that can come back on for a final 10 minutes in a high stakes game he is worth it.
I think the problem was rumbling for a long time. Managers have struggled to work out how to make big calls on Gerrard as he clearly always wanted to be involved.

I kind of feel that a spell away may have been necessary for him to appreciate how his role and abilities had changed. You only need to look at Wayne Rooney of late to see how hard it is for a player to see and adapt to changing levels of ability and/or pace.

I wouldn't mind him getting a contract with a playing option so long as we weren't looking to play him very often. As a sub or in some Europa league games he could be useful. He's unproven as a coach but as an example in the squad he could be a big influence.

Makes sense to me - come and train, show the other lads what standards they need to maintain on the training ground, then when you've finished your swan song season in the MLS next year come and join us as a coach in 2017.
I'd be delighted with that if it's just for training.

Maybe that's correct. However if a player like Kolo Toure (not the same level, but the same sort of age and role) can remain at the club and be aware that he will have limited play time. Im sure Gerrard could have been convinced of similar.

For me him leaving was the simplest way of doing it, but not necessarily the best one. Its as much on the player to adapt as the club, but for someone as special as him to us. I think more effort could/should be made.
        *Except Michael, who died.

Surely 90% of the squad have already seen him train?

We've moved on, he offers us nothing in playing terms. He's got too big an ego and to risk undermining what Klopps doing would be insanity!

Klopps insanity though, seems to be his idea.

If Klopp thinks it's a good idea, and Gerrard wants to come back, then I sincerely hope that it does

Tbh, if the only person it helps is Gerrard with his form in Usa, then that's also good enough for me.

I don't think Klopp needs his input, but as has been said, if it's what Klopp wants, then he has his reasons i'm sure.

I really do not like the idea of Gerrard coming back to the club to train. His era has gone. His coming back will disturb things

I don't think Klopp would not allow this to happen and Gerrard probably knows this

As a player I think his time is done but for offering some knowledge amd helping the young players at the club with technique etc... I don't see an issue with it.

All depends on whether said article is accurate and what plans if any Klopp might have for him if he came back
