But that's the point isn't it? That there is no one rule for this.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostCan't use a one off as an example for all!

So saying Gerrard HAS to learn his trade elsewhere has no bearing to fact. As an opinion of course that's fine and personally I wouldn't want him coming in directly as our manager
But there seems to be plenty of people who think he doesn't even deserve the opportunity (to learn his trade) on OUR coaching staff. I just find that bonkers!

Yeah you're right tbf.....I would love him on our coaching staff. I do think this is a great opportunity for him to take on management whilst he is doing his badges and actually have control. It could go tits up but who knows?
As I said above, hate MK Dons and everything they stand for so would prefer him to be with us!

Dalglish was still a top top player when he took over and lets face it that Liverpool squad was so good it was almost "too" easy to take the reigns (and by the way it can be argued that Dalglish ended up weakening the side with some notably poor sales/buys in the last couple of seasons so he wasn't infallible).
These days the nature of game and the league is such that there is very little room for error, LFC did so with Bodgson/Dalglish's return period, Man Utd are going through it now post Fergie. So if anyone did suggest Gerrard to manage Liverpool right now they'd need their head checking. Just as any Utd supporter backing Giggs or The Shop Steward would.

What does managing a team of scrubs learn him for managing a club with 10s and 10s of millions to spend and loads of boss players out of interest? It might as well be two different sports!Originally posted by baitman View Postif gerrard is serious about long term management on any level then he needs to go to a lower league team and work as an assistant and learn the ropes.
no one, even an ex playing legend, deserves a free ride or unearned leg up.
go and earn your stripes lad, then come back to us when the time is right.

Kenny became manager because we needed one after JF resigned. Pep took a vacant position at Barca B and then became manager after Frank Rijkaard did a bit **** and got the boot. Point is, ex players like Gerrard can and should be considered for vacant positions, but we don't have one at the moment.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Sort of seems like you are downplaying and rewriting a legacy to suit the narrative that Gerrard will be parp.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostDalglish was still a top top player when he took over and lets face it that Liverpool squad was so good it was almost "too" easy to take the reigns (and by the way it can be argued that Dalglish ended up weakening the side with some notably poor sales/buys in the last couple of seasons so he wasn't infallible).

I dont think anyone is suggesting Gerrard is going to be manager, thats crazy. But to have him come in as a coach is fine. I really dont see why anyone could have a problem with it?
If he was a player, he might have some sort of power. But he wouldn't be, his legs are gone for the Prem now.*Except Michael, who died.

I don't think there's one person (on here at least) that would want us to have SG as manager for next season. Having him come back into the fold and perhaps help out in some form with coaching I don't see a problem with as long as Klopp feels the same and let's be honest the only way SG will be back at the club is if Klopp gives it the green light.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostThere are some people who'd love Gerrard as manager right now (well next season) so infatuated are they
