I must really be losing it, but there have been many other players who have been poorer than Gerrard this season. He has not been what we know he can, but no way on earth should he be dropped. IMO. I still see the moments of quality from him that the others are simply incapable of, so we cannot afford to have that out of the team.

Tee, the loyalty to our all time legend is admirable. Its also sometimes blinding. He makes mistakes often and our midfield with him in it is as soft as butter left out of a fridge.
Agreed he has and will retain some of his magical quality but now its coming at a cost. Sometimes the cost is too much, at other times we can cover that cost. Its a balancing act really. One tit for another.

Mate, even with his mistakes he is ten times the player the other 3 midfielders are. It is laughable IMO that we are actually discussing dropping him. Nothing to do with him being untouchable etc etc, the fact is he is quality. BR needs to find a way to get it out of him more often."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Imo rodgers utilisation of him is highlighting his defficiencies.
Shows a bit of naivety because hes single handedly carried liverpool for over a decade and hes far from finished.

Or I'd have him as an impact player off the bench. We don't have many players who can come on and change a game and Gerrard coming on after 60 minutes every now and then might be a win/win situation.
Would love to see how he performs on the right.

Less responsibility for him and it'll hopefully help bring his goals back again. He doesn't even look like scoring at the moment.

I think the central AM role should be Shelvey's.
Would like to see Shelvey get a run in the team playing central AM.
Not saying he'll ever be in the same class as Gerrard (because very few footballers are), but he's the closest we have to a successor.

I don't think he's a great deeplying centre midfielder he's better further up the pitch where he can contribute with goals and assists, in the role he plays at the moment you don't feel he's going to get goals. With all due respect to him most of our central midfielders could do what he has been doing for us this season, but I don't think anyone else in our squad (Suarez aside) is capable of providing the goals and assists he is capable of from a more attacking role. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree with those saying he should be pushed further forwards. My only concern is whether he still has the legs to play on the right. The last few games he always seems to be catching up with the play, not part of it, which would be more of an issue as part of the front three.
What to do with Gerrard is the biggest problem Rodgers needs to resolve this season IMO.

Would it necessarily be such a problem. A little bit of asymmetry further back in the team and I think he could easily be covered. IMO we would gain more by having a second attacking threat than we would stand to lose. He could play as the most advanced player a lot of the time (similar to Cole against Young Boys) and have relatively limited responsibility to get back.Originally posted by elrichio86 View PostI agree with those saying he should be pushed further forwards. For me it depends on our formation, if we are playing 2 sitting midfielders then he can do that with his eyes closed (whether he wants to or not is another matter) but I'd never play him there as the only defensive midfielder.
He can obviously still play off the front man ahead of the 2 sitters but games like yesterday where we appeared to have Allen sitting with Gerrard and Henderson in front of him he is boarding on useless.
Yesterday he would have been better in the front 3 with Suarez and Sterling then have Henderson sitting with Allen and either Shelvey or Suso playing off the front. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I LOVE Gerrard - He has been great for us for a long time!
The guy is a legend in his own right and should be given an honorable discharge but you just have to face it boys - the party is well and truly over. He looks tired, out of place, complacent, over the top, fed up, going through the motion and has zero confidence. If that's what you get for 130000£ a week...We wont turn the tide until he retires. We need something completely different like a Silva type who can create in tight Spaces and lose players to shine with Rodgers and his philosophy.
Gerrard is so clearly not the right type. The only thing left for him is the long ball which he still deliveres a few times each game. Trouble is - it is NOT enough from CM. Not with Allen at his side. We need better sooner rather than later.
Thanks for you time and sorry if this annoys you...
