I didn't think he could do it consistently. Thought he'd have good games and his fair share of bad games - go wandering, try too many Hollywood balls, lose the ball too much etc. Couldn't be happier to be wrong, he's been absolutely amazing. Love him now probably more than I ever have.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't aiming that at people to try and say "I was right" - I suspect I felt the same as you've described there! But he just seems to have matured both mentally and in his play in such an unimaginable way this season that he's gone up in everyone's estimation, if that was even possible!

Obviously there are two legitimate schools of thought - one in terms of club legend (trophies, longevity, loyalty, ability etc) and the other a case of pure talent, skill and footballing ability. I reckon Gerrard is edging Kenny now when it comes to the first category - and certainly will if we win the league. In the second category it's obviously Suarez by an absolute mile.

I was firmly planted in the idea that he'd be very good at it, but not as good as he'd be played elsewhere. I never thought he'd grow into it so incredibly quickly, but more importantly I feel like he's consistently hit a level I'm not sure he could in other roles. His tactical awareness is light years from what it once was, every inch of him looks made for this. Wouldn't consider playing him anywhere else tbh.

In my opinion, rafa was the architech that made gerrard into one 9f the best attacking midfielders in europe. He taught gerrard how to be extremely effective behind a striker. Gerrard was class under houllier but benitez took him up to another level....

Rodgers has done something even more impressive though. He has reinvented the guy and could possibly get 3 or 4 more years out of a world class player without compromising his effectiveness to the team. I think the fact that he is the only holding player is key as well....it makes gerrard even more disciplined. It was interesting to see lucas play further forward today when he came on.

Seems unbelievable after the heights he's hit in the past, but I actually think he's playing his best football ever for us at the moment. The way he dictates the play and reads the game, it's truly incredible.
