Good on him I say. If we want him to be LFC manager one day (obviously he wants it) then he needs to learn how to manage - in the premier league too.

If he can't become a top class manager then he'll be an Ole for us which would be an utter disaster.

Great news for the SPL, Rangers fans will be gutted Twitter is full of them quoting that interview when he said in an overly exasperated way, "do I seem happy" from about two weeks ago.
      Modifying post.

He once tapped me on the shoulder at Villa Park and said 'oohh I'd love to manage here one day, look at that lovely brickwork'

Early. A few more years at Rangers would have built up his credibility even if his 1st move to the Premier League wasn’t a success. He’s almost back to square one if this fails.

Can see the appeal of Villa though. They’ll back him. 3rd biggest net spenders in the last few years and 5th richest PL owners.

            That's a fair assessment.

What constitutes success at Villa that would see him get the Liverpool job?

Couple of top 8 finishes? Run in Europe and a run in a domestic cup or two?

Ings on loan during AFCON and John Mcginn for 50p.

Villa are a much better side than they are showing this season, there's a decent squad there they just need the right manger to show that.

I reckon he wants to prove it to himself too. The last thing he'd want is to become our Ole.

Which is probably why he's moving on a bit early - Klopp likely off at the end of his contract so it's now or never for Stevie.

Surprised he didn't finish the league. A couple of trophies (even in the SPL) would give the CV a bit of a winning look about it as he's not winning **** all at Villa.

But they have a good squad and hopefully he does a good job... don't see how it translates to getting the LFC job any time soon though.

Got to be honest, the chance of him becoming at a level where he could compete for the PL and CL at any club is tiny. And the last thing anyone wants is a club legend to do a mediocre job (see souness and kenny after bodge). Cool that he has the ambition to want to try, but as you suggest, it’s got to be many many years away if ever.

Its a shame he didnt finish the season with rangers to show he is a man of commitment as well as ambition.
I think Lijnders will succeed klopp and then gerrard will want to come in to succeed him or maybe work along side him before pep finally leaves

I think Gerrard’s chances of being our manager would have been higher if he stayed at the club and worked his way up.
