Villa was a no go because he didn't want to leave Spain but we made a bid that matched his buy-out clause. £8m if I remember things right.

I'm 100% sure that he would have moved to us if he had considered to leave Spain. Money didn't stop that deal.

Only shows what already been said that Rafa had a fantastic scouting network in place.

Now a lot more clubs have a lot more scouts so it is more or less impossible to find a bargain. The best South American talents are already scouted and looked at by the big clubs when they are 13, 14, 15 years old.

Now they would cost £20m+ if you want to sign them.

From it's inception the watching rafa bit has taken second place to raking over old ground.

well its a bit of both. I wonder when the Rafa obession will end when it comes to what if etc. Probably not til he retires as there is still a slim slim chance of him coming back.

Indeed. But the non rafa watching bit has blown up a few times if i remember correctly. Earned both Arn and Nige some weekend breaks in the cotswolds.

He was close to signing Jovetic and Malouda according to an interview he gave that I listened to a while back. So them in that three behind Torres with Gerrard. Mascherano and Alonso or Barry.

He nearly got Carroll for £5m as well I read.

Former Liverpool FC manager Rafa Benitez desperate for Kenny Dalglish to restore the glory days to LFC

RAFA BENITEZ is desperate for Kenny Dalglish to restore the glory days at Liverpool FC and he hopes that the man he brought back to Anfield in 2009 remains LFC boss “for many years to come.”

Benitez was integral to Dalglish’s return to Anfield in the summer of 2009, originally as a club ambassador.

Dalglish worked closely with the club’s Youth Academy, before stepping up to replace Roy Hodgson as manager in January.

And Benitez declared: “I have a lot of respect for him and the things he is doing now. There’s no problem. Kenny is in charge and hopefully will be in charge for many years and win a lot of trophies.”

Benitez has been back to Anfield infrequently since then, but the Champions League and FA Cup winning former Reds boss insists he has no problem about going back to the stadium where he spent six years as manager.

“I have seen one or two games at Anfield but I don’t have a problem going back,” he explained.

“I’m surprised when people say ‘Oh, Rafa is talking about Liverpool again.’

“Surely I can talk about Liverpool after six years! Especially when I brought back Kenny.

“I don’t have a problem, but I go to other games around the area, Stoke, Birmimgham, Aston Villa, Manchester City, there are four or five other stadiums I can go to. Wigan as well.

“I don’t feel awkward. The fans have been really good.

“I was really proud to be the Liverpool Football Club manager. If I go to watch the game I would like to see the players, the staff and the people that I was around, so that’s why I go to other stadiums.”

Benitez, who still lives on Merseyside is speaking at the Empire Theatre on Sunday.

So basically what that artical says is that due to Rafa's vision Kenny is managing the team now.
                              *Except Michael, who died.

Don't know if it's saying that, but Tbh, i wonder, had Kenny not been at the club and right on the scene when the job became available, would they have offered him it ?
