    Yeah Don't you know.

Owen was on the up, Heskey was getting up from the floor.

    Cisse was up and coming.

      I'll explain

We went from 5th (2002-03) to 4th (2003-04). We'd just qualified for the CL and confidence was high. Does that make sense?

It is a little over simplistic as a description of on the up isn't it? Considering we also finished with 4 less points.

Owen had refused to extend his contract and wanted to move to Real Madrid. Attendances started to fall and Ged was giving his "they want to go back to the old ways, well not with me" press conference. The one really big plus is that Stevie was about to hit his peak.

Fair points Matt and Mr Coch. 'on the up' was a poor choice of words.

But... the same squad of players, with the addition of a couple of players, went on to win the CL. It was a squad that was moving forward rather than one in decline.

Matt, we also finished with less points in 2005 (Rafa's first season) compared with 2004 (Houllier's last season). So, judging by your comment, above, you probably think we went backwards in 2005? I disagree, I think it was a squad that was moving forward.

I was talking about the team between 02/03 (64 points and 5th place) and 03/04 (60 points and 4th place). You could see what changes were being made in 04/05 and how we were building upon them despite finishing with 2 less points.

With regards to winning the CL, Alonso and Garcia in particular were instrumental in us winning that trophy.

Kenny have a higher win percentage than that (58.51% ) and more honours - why change to one that has a lower?

I think the only appropriate time to suggest bringing him back in is if Kenny isn't the manager. Until then its not even a discussion to me.

Because this season our win % in the league is just over 33%?

Kenny's European record is poor too.

Er....he has managed 2 games in Europe for us.....ever. I don't see how we can judge him either way on that.

It was mainly to highlight how incredibly meaningless the argument is. Win percentage as a manager in the past is of little relevance to the current situation. If Rafa's entire record should be relevant why shouldn't Kenny's be?

Rafa's last season with us he had a league win % of 34%, I can see that will raise our levels to the same standard.
